"I want a beer" ... a simple and direct request, but a damn amazing one because it was uttered by a paralyzed man who's communicating for the first time in months, thanks to a life-changing brain implant.
In a testament to the power of science, and beer -- researchers in Switzerland outfitted a 36-year-old ALS patient with a chip in his brain, which allows him to spell out sentences one letter at a time, and he used it to order up a cold one.

this is tmz and I don’t want to click. Does the article explain how the implant and the brain interface. Is it reading brainwaves near where it’s places, or is there a more direct interface with the neurology?

I believe it was an actual implant of sensors. His immediate family had to give permission for the surgery and he had been working the researchers for several years.

Fake news, he obviously was trying to spell out “I want a peer reviewed study of ivermectin on my desk by noon” when the machine took over and misinterpreted,what he was trying to say
