In private speech tonight at Cheney fundraiser, Senator Romney warned over 200 Republicans gathered in Northern Virginia of the ‘extraordinary challenge’ to preserve American democracy, with threats now abroad and at home, per 5 attendees...
Attendees described Romney, the GOP’s 2012 nominee, as delivering the remarks as a warning for the group, which included many longtime members of the GOP establishment, all as U.S. confronts Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and as Trump continues to exert power inside the party...
“We are really the only significant experiment in democracy and preserving liberal democracy is an extraordinary challenge,” Romney said, according to the attendees, who gathered at the Hilton hotel in McLean.
Romney told the crowd that he has a chart in his office tracing the history of civilizations over the past 4,000 years, a reminder of how they can rise and collapse, and of how unusual American democracy is in global history. Autocracy is the chart’s “default setting," he warned.
At home, Romney said, “what has kept us from falling in with the same kind of authoritarian leader as Vladimir Putin are the strengths of our institutions, the rule of law, our courts, Congress.”
He then praised Cheney for doing "right... when others want to look away."

If over 200 sat and listened to that moron, they aren’t Republicans. They’re Eatablsihment/RINO/UNIPARTY hacks.
No different than anyone that would sit and listen to Graham, McConnell, Thune and every other Senator.
I never thought packing the supreme court was to preserve the rule of law.
So he wants to preserve ‘Liberal democracy‘ instead of preserving the Republic.
He should be against mob rule. But then he not on our side.
He was in on the Big Steal and voted to convict President Trump over the phony January 6 charges.
Our democracy was stolen on November 3 2020 and this crooked, venal halfwit whose family harbors a grudge against the United States was part of it.
He doesn’t belong in the Republican party or the government of the United States.
Recall that he was accosted at SL airport by constituents who were angry about his disgusting turncoat vote. They were right and he’s still utterly wrong.
Because of him we have world war 3 underway, massive inflation, a cratering economy, a resurgent Democrat party stomping on our rights with medical tyranny and phony kangaroo court “investigations” and political prisoners sitting in gruesome gulags.
Screw this slimy South Salt Lake used car dealer and his sleazeball backstabbing.
I am not falling for these backroom dealers and demonikrap party assistants preaching and parading their fake noblesse oblige to save the “democracy” and the party from Trump.
I wish these out of touch, losers luck. Their days are numbered, and even if they secure the nomination, no way the Trump wing is coming out to support them.
Mitt Romney, the RINO who took 30 pieces of silver to take a dive in the 2012 election, is back looking for more.
He talking about the need to preserve the gravy train.
But isn’t Kinzinger also running for president?
I ain’t no fortunate one... naw... nawwww.
Great tune.
Sure glad I didn’t vote for that POS. I was so disgusted that I wrote in my own name.
Freeper EV was running for prez at that time. That’s who I voted for.
I cannot type in a public forum what I wish for Mitt Romney. The man is the lowest form of human being.
hard not to notice that this is the exact same messaging Hillary has been using lately, "preserve democracy".
Please, I’ll trade you my vote for a true constitutional republic. I just want to be left alone.
Mitt, it’s a republic, not a democracy. Nobody wants democracy. It’s two wolves and a sheep working out dinner plans.
Retire to Russia or China. You did well here as a crypto-socialist in conservative clothes. Almost became President. Well done, comrade.
“preserve American democracy” = preserve the Stalinazi Demonrat Party.
You and Liz are the threat at home.
I’ll vote for any Rat over Mitt.
