A former small-town Pennsylvania police chief has been convicted of raping a child in a case that has languished for years after the victim first came forward in 2012.
The victim of former Weissport police chief Brent Robert Getz, 30, said that he began abusing her when she was six years old and he was 16.
She said it happened hundreds of times, several times a week, until she was 11.
The girl first told her elementary school substitute teacher that Gregory E. Wagner Jr., 31, had raped her. That abuse began when she was four and Wagner was 14.
At one point, she recorded a video of Wagner forcing her to her watch pornography because nobody believed her.
Police revisited the case in 2018. That's when the victim revealed that Getz, Wagner's friend, had also participated. Wagner later implicated Getz.
Authorities have not described the girl's relationship to Wagner.
In addition to the rape count, the jury found Getz, of Lehighton, guilty Thursday of one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and indecent assault of a child under 12.
His bail was immediately revoked and he was taken to jail. He has not yet been sentenced.
After his 2019 arrest, Getz was fired from his job as police chief in Weissport, a town of 413 residents about 77 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
A message seeking comment was left for his lawyer, Brian J. Collins.
Co-defendant Wagner Jr. pleaded guilty to child rape in November 2020 and agreed to testify against Getz. Both men, who were adolescents when the abuse began, await sentencing.

This girl was nothing but a play-thing to them. Like taking a doll off a shelf until they were done with her.
Wagner looks like a sea creature of some sort.

I live very close to Weissport. It is a small boro that was founded way back before the Revolution and in past times supported the Lehigh Canal which transported coal to eastern markets. There is nothing going on in Weissport today, about 400 people live there, semi-impoverished. No food stores, no fire department and there is an elevated road bridge (US Rt 209) that bisects the town. Up until the pandemic, it hosted an yearly “Redneck Festival” which was in good humor but aptly named. It’s a place that you drive through, holding your breath.
As to the police chief, there is never more than one police employed at any one time so by default whoever is the police is the chief. Most of the time there is no police, the boro depends on state police or either Lehighton, Franklin or Mahoning Twp. Usually they hire someone for police and they stay only as long as it takes to get another gig.
Not blaming the girl and not wanting to sound like a jerk, and Getz should be locked up forever and ever but a good portion of the citizens there are dysfunctional. Lots of recreational drug users.

There is no mention or reference to parents.
This girl is not only a victim of sexual abuse but also negligent and disinterested parents. She was an easy target because the parents were not involved or absent.
Did she ever tell her parents? Did she even bother to try to tell her parents? Did she not tell them because she knew they wouldn't believe her or care?
This girl was essentially alone in the world.
