I never post one-line vanities.

Except for this one.

its people are totally in support of putin

“If President Vladimir V. Putin is looking for international support and approval for his invasion of Ukraine, he can turn to the Chinese internet.

Its users have called him “Putin the Great,” “the best legacy of the former Soviet Union” and “the greatest strategist of this century.” They have chastised Russians who protested against the war, saying they had been brainwashed by the United States.

Mr. Putin’s speech on Thursday, which essentially portrayed the conflict as one waged against the West, won loud cheers on Chinese social media. Many people said they were moved to tears. “If I were Russian, Putin would be my faith, my light,” wrote @jinyujiyiliangxiaokou, a user of the Twitter-like platform Weibo.

As the world overwhelmingly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Chinese internet, for the most part, is pro-Russia, pro-war and pro-Putin.”

summarization: Chinese people do exactly what Chinese people are expected to do

Personal observations as someone who knows Chinese: Pro-Russian comments generally drop into three categories - criticism of Westerners causing this war (aka the side effects of decades of brainwashing), whataboutism (to be expected, especially if you’ve seen Chinese trolls anywhere), and Chinese people lapping up one-sided Russian propaganda (can’t really blame them since outlets never mention anything on the Ukrainian side)

I really depends on how the world reacts to the Russian invasion and less on whether Putin “wins”

If and when the CCP invades Taiwan, it won’t get the blowback form the U.S. that Russia is getting because the CCP has already infiltrated much of the U.S. government and big media companies; either thru bribes, campaign contributions, or direct commercial interests.

Baloney. The reason for the Ukraine war is to deter us from the fact that China is going after Tiwain.

I am of the contrarian opinion that China will not invade Taiwan. They will continue to infiltrate democratic institutions and eventually take over with all the valuable infrastructure and industry intact.

That is also my opinion. They will infiltrate the boards of Taiwanese companies.

I admit that I thought this would be over in 48 hours. Either the Ukrainians are determined to win or Russias military sucks.

It’s normal for Russia to take more casualties than they have to. They have what it takes to win on the battlefield but the shocker is the level of civil issues with Russians protesting the war. I’m sure that was a shock to Putin. (Nobody likes to bring a dictator bad news so Putin probably wasn’t informed people felt this way.) Russia is a country where protesters get arrested and I’m sure a few bruises are normal with a typical arrest. So the protesters, which can only be the tip of the iceberg of unrest caused by the war are a huge drag on Putin. This may push Putin to seek a diplomatic solution which was easily in reach all along. The reason it wasn’t reached was Washington kept egging on the situation, probably thinking with normality bias that Russia wouldn’t attack. (Anyone who would think that obviously is examining their prostate with their nose.) I really like this “Task and Purpose” video about the situation on the ground. It’s far better than any reporting from the front lines I’ve ever seen. (Not my video.)

For sure they won’t do it this week!

China plays long game and they are not desperate to snatch Taiwan.

Russia was failing and is now in a stall. We all know what can happen right after a stall.

China will wait and see, maybe they can pick up a nice chunk of Russian territory, cheap!

I think it’s both. Add to it the Russian military does not have its heart in it and Ukrainians are defending their home.

You might want to hold off that debacle stuff until this plays out. We have no more idea what’s going on in Ukraine than we knew what was going on in Wuhan in January ‘20. We all bought the Chinese propaganda show which prepared the ground for the scamdemic. You are being fed propaganda from all sides. Why on earth would you believe any of this? In order for me to believe, I must first believe the Soviet Army is a paper tiger. I know better despite what the talking heads tell me.

That’s an invasion.
In the practical art of war, the best thing of all is to take the enemy’s country whole and intact; to shatter and destroy it is not so good. […] / Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. …

— The Art Of War, III:1-2
That certainly is what happened in Hong Kong. (I’m still waiting for the liberal media to start calling it “Xianggang”, which is the Mandarin name rather than the Cantonese name we commonly use.)

The status quo is better for China than invading and taking Taiwan.

If China invaded Taiwan, we would block Chinese commerce between its Pacific Coast and the Indian Ocean and elsewhere. This would be disastrous for the Chinese economy.

On the other hand, if we started a conflict by blocking Chinese international commerce, China would take Taiwan, leaving the US without semiconductors, which would be disastrous.

So the current standoff works for China.

Russia's military does not suck. They merely expected a romp in the park. Now they must either negotiate or open a different playbook. Full on war crimes against a neighbor, with their own people thisclose to a financial panic.

Sanctions have painful consequences.

So, what are we watching tonight? The Missiles of October, or On The Beach?
