(AP) — The three men convicted of murder in Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting were found guilty of federal hate crimes Tuesday for violating Arbery’s civil rights and targeting him because he was Black.
The jury reached its decision after several hours of deliberation on the charges against father and son Greg and Travis McMichael and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan.
During the trial, prosecutors showed roughly two dozen text messages and social media posts in which Travis McMichael and Bryan used racist slurs and made derogatory comments about Black people. The FBI wasn’t able to access Greg McMichael’s phone because it was encrypted.
The McMichaels grabbed guns and jumped in a pickup truck to pursue Arbery after seeing him running in their neighborhood outside the Georgia port city of Brunswick in February 2020. Bryan joined the pursuit in his own pickup and recorded cellphone video of Travis McMichael fatally shooting Arbery. The killing became part of a larger national reckoning on racial injustice after the graphic video leaked online two months later.
Defense attorneys contended the three didn’t chase and kill Arbery because of his race but acted on the earnest, though erroneous, suspicion that Arbery had committed crimes in their neighborhood.

These men are scapegoats to the gods of political correctness. Had Arbery been white, there would have never been any charges filed on this.

The three musketeers had no legal authority to be where they were. They had no legal authority to do what they did. If Aubrey had killed Travis, Michael and Roddy would have been charged with felony murder. Roddy injected himself in the situation when he attempted to impede Aubrey’s escape from the MacMichaels. Before one starts chasing people with guns and pointing guns at people, one should insure that one has legal authority to do that. There is a guy from Clearwater , Florida that is standing his ground every day inside the fence at one of Florida’s Correctional Institutions because he proked a fight with someone. Shot and killed him. And started yelling when the Police came, “I was standing my ground”. First the Police disagreed with him. Then a jury disagreed with him. And last but not least a Judge disagreed with him and arranged hin to be a guest of the State for around 30 years with free room, board, and meals.

Why that's predictable as the sunrise. Every man holding a shotgun gets immediately attacked by some unarmed man attempting to take the weapon away from him.
The moral here is "don't ever hold a shotgun." Someone will run up and hit you in the mouth and attempt to take it away from you.
Only stupid people think someone with a shotgun will not be attacked. You have to be a real moron to believe that a shotgun will stop an attacker from hitting you.

You and I have a very different understanding of a fair punishment, even if I agreed with the notion that any of them were culpable in the death of that piece of sh*t. (which I don't.)
The news media did not exploit this like Travyon Martin and other cases because it was open and shut case. The McMichaels violated every rule on lethal force, and it was obvious they were racially motivated. When other WHITE people trespassed, the McMichaels did not call 911, chase them down, put the muzzle of a shotgun in their guts, killed them, and claimed self defense for killing someone who became a "threat" only after a muzzle of a shotgun was shoved in their belly.
People on the right have gone out of their way to act provoked without the left or the news provoking us, and we are looking like the racists the left says we are for it.
The elder McMichael was involved in Arbery's case in which he brought a loaded gun to a school event, so yeah, the former police officer *DID* have a way of knowing his rap sheet.
He was an investigator for the District Attorney's office. It doesn't get much better than that in knowing all the local criminals.

Arbery was a thug. He attacked the man holding the gun because he was a thug, and that's what thugs do in his culture.
He was not *defending himself.* That is *YOUR* incorrect interpretation of his mindset.
Arbery initiated the violence. He did not do so out of any fear of the man holding the shotgun, he did so out of fear the police (who's sirens he could hear at the time) would shortly arrive to arrest him, and therefore get his probation revoked.
He was not lawfully placed under citizens arrest.
He was not arrested at all. He charged a man and attacked him. At no point was Arbery under anyone's control, and therefore you cannot call it an "arrest." (Which means "stopped.")
"Arrest" = "Stopped" or "held" as in to prevent further movement.

And they did it during daylight hours. Leaving that part out makes me think you are trying to misdirect people away from the truth.
Also, those other people did not visit more than once, and not nearly so many times as Arbery kept coming back to that same house.

This is an "Emperor's New Clothes" phenomena. They are told this was a racist murder of a black man, and now they all pretend to see it despite the clear evidence that the guy attacked *THEM*.

There was a whole lot that led up to Arbery being in close proximity to someone pointing a shotgun at him. The jury in the criminal trial was privy to, and took into consideration the parts that you conveniently omit.
People use figures of speech all the time, but that does not literally mean he was "trapped like a rat."
Arbery was clearly free to run the other direction, and you could have seen this with your own two eyes had you bothered to actually look at the evidence.

The guy doing the engaging *WAS* the police. He had been doing that same job for 25 years.
