Canada really is turning into a police state before our eyes
American Thinker ^ | 21 Feb, 2022 | Andrea Widburg

A month ago, it was a free country. Then, its little Mao felt threatened and, suddenly, the gloves are off and the rule of law is gone.

One of the hallmarks of liberty is a reliable legal system. In totalitarian countries, one of the ways you control people is to keep them perpetually off-balance. The law and its application are utterly unpredictable. People become paralyzed and dare not do anything that might offend the regime, lest they get destroyed. And that’s what we’re seeing in Canada, where the newly dictatorial government is making no pretense of abiding by the rule of law.

A very specific aspect of the rule of law is that new laws are not applied retroactively. In a free country, one with a safe, reliable legal system, if it was legal for you to buy a croissant on Monday, the fact that the law changed on Tuesday to make croissants illegal does not mean that the police can come and arrest you for that Monday croissant. In a police state, of course, the police can arrest you at any time for anything, including engaging in conduct that was legal when you engaged in it.

With that in mind, I give you a series of tweets from Mark Strahl, a Canadian Member of Parliament (so we must assume, for now, that he’s telling the truth): (tweets posted below)

Briane is a single mom from Chilliwack working a minimum wage job. She gave $50 to the convoy when it was 100% legal. She hasn’t participated in any other way. Her bank account has now been frozen. This is who Justin Trudeau is actually targeting with his Emergencies Act orders.

— Mark Strahl, MP (@markstrahl) February 20, 2022 To those of you, especially the media, demanding more details on Briane, having seen what has been said about her online today and what has been done to other convoy donors in the last weeks I am not going to help you dox her. I know who she is and I won’t stop fighting for her.

A government “insurrection” against the people of Canada similar to the J6 insurrection of the government against the people of America.

It’s not just Canada....its Australia, New Zealand, Austria.

This is by plan. It’s coming here too. Was thinking this morning about the ability the fed gov just gave themselves to spy on our bank accounts. Then I thought about how in Canada they are shutting down the bank accounts of the protestors.

No Coincidence....plan.

Was Canada free? A Canadian who says something even a little controversial will be dragged before one of their “human rights commissions” for some judge to decide their fate. A judge that was elected by no one, but wielding the power of heavy fines or imprisonment. Canadians are free as long as they don’t get out of line.

They are basically using the Common Cold as a sufficient reason to go completely Fascist.

The people of Canada can stop this if they can display a backbone and shut down the country until they achieve liberty.

Canada is no better than Red China at the moment.

People can VOTE themselves INTO socialism but they have to FIGHT their way OUT of it.

Just ask Mark Steyn how much fun this can be...

It's time for everyone to stock up on cash, gold, bitcoin, anything that the Feds cannot hit an off-switch on.

Mr. K, you asked for a friend, what he should do with 150k in a checking account.

I'd suggest cash, precious metals, or bitcoin.

I was thinking about that new power too…every transaction over $600 is reported directly to the IRS.

Banks are the ones that need to resist these encroachments. I think the Canadian government has effectively undermined confidence in the Canadian banking system. People - and businesses - are going to be putting their money elsewhere.

Hope the government enjoys the consequences.

I’m thinking of investing heavily in coal, hammers, tongs, plowshares, and pruning hooks. The exchange rate may turn out to be much better.

What happened in Canada exposes the weakness of British government, no real Constitution. OK, they theoretically have one, but just like a lot of things in Canada, it’s a cheap knock-off.

As the shock of baby Castro’s dictatorial police state crack down on protesters wears off, it will be interesting to see how the resistance will evolve. Most likely economic passive resistance. Strikes, work slow downs and sick outs would be good tactics. Obviously the supply chain has been severely damaged. When baby Castro delivers a Cuba like economy, he’s going to be in big trouble.

It’s also the long form of J6 combined with our inching toward jab/social credit/digital currency here. We had the political deplatforming and debanking before any of them (other than the likes of China, of course).

Has any Canadian ever said " If trudough is elected I'm moving to the United States"? Or does the U.S. have a corner on the market of loud mouthed lying wind bags?

One of the realities each of these nations share besides language is the existence of true national police. Even with the myriad of federal LEOs here, there is no true national police force. The Left continues, now that they are in power and looking to stay there, to try and create a true national police.

Keep in mind that kanada is not America. Have you ever seen an AR15 with a drum mag in kanada? No.

I can walk into a gun store and, within an hour, walk out with a Glock 19 (15 in the mag; one in the pipe).

I can carry said Glock, concealed or openly.

I repeat, kanada is not America.
