‘We Are One People. Why Would We Fight Our Brothers?’ Russians React to Ukraine War Threat
Moscow Times ^ | Feb 16, 2022 | James Beardsworth

Posted on 02/20/2022 4:27:55 PM PST by CondoleezzaProtege

“It's the same old situation with the Americans,” Dmitry, a 49-year old Muscovite smoking a cigarette outside a metro station, told The Moscow Times with a laugh. “Nothing will happen, and then they’ll go around saying they beat everyone.”

As the West has repeatedly sounded the war alarm, the Kremlin has insisted it has no such plans. Instead, Moscow accuses the U.S. and NATO of threatening its security by expanding into eastern European countries like Ukraine, which it sees as being within its sphere of influence — and is demanding binding security guarantees.

Civilians in the Russian capital were inclined to agree with their government.

“There is no attack from Russia on Ukraine, I don’t even believe one was planned,” said a retired IT specialist who declined to give his name.

“Yes, of course the relationship between the two countries is complicated, but there was no question of any attack; it was invented by the Americans,” said another man, a 67-year-old Ukrainian who has spent much of his life in Moscow.

Despite the latest troop buildup and the souring of relations that took place after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula and conflict broke out in eastern Ukraine in 2014, Russians continue to play down the prospect of another war.

“Putin is very smart, he wouldn’t allow war, especially not between Ukrainians and Russians, we are one people with almost the same language, why would we fight our brothers? It is stupid,” said 50-year-old Savely, an unemployed Muscovite.

Who gains from a war?

Martial law declared.

November elections canceled.

Russia has gained big from the war hype, as well as the West’s stupid ESG/green policies

Russia just announced that its trade surplus with the EU rose from $15 billion in 2020, to $67 billion in 2021

Putin to the sock-puppet Biden and Blinken: Thank you! Keep up the good work!

Dear Dmitry:
It’s not “The Americans”…

It’s “The Democrats”.

Two entirely different entities. Mutually exclusive.

Think “Russians” and “communists”… and then you’ll understand.

“Who gains from a war?”

Not sure if there was ever going to be one. Russia was possibly giving them little taste of their power to intimidate them. But Russia will, by gaining control of the Ukraine again, (1991) will definitely be taking a step up by being in the Ukraine energy reserves.

Ukraine holds 39 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proven gas reserves as of 2017, ranking 23rd in the world and accounting for about 1% of the world’s total natural gas reserves of 6,923 Tcf. Ukraine has proven reserves equivalent to 35.7 times its annual consumption.

Russia, on the other hand, holds 80,000,000,000 barrels of proven oil reserves as of 2016, ranking 8th in the world and accounting for about 4.8% of the world’s total oil reserves of 1,650,585,140,000 barrels. Russia has proven reserves equivalent to 60.4 times its annual consumption.

Both countries continue to grow in this area and they will be in on the ground floor of the consumption growth expected to be back to pre-pandemic levels and going up by the end of 2022 according to S&P Global. The Ukraine would be a great nest egg for Russia who really didn’t care a lot about it when they separated 30 years ago. Now they have worth and both are producing well beyond consumption levels in each country. Plenty to sell.

Why would our cowards in DC risk their hides with Russia? It’s just another Russia hoax.

The Canadians don’t seem to have trouble with that sort of thing.

“Yes, of course the relationship between the two countries is complicated, but there was no question of any attack; it was invented by the Americans,”

The Russians probably understand not too many years ago the average American looked at their government as a mostly a legitimate institution, who did not seem overly concerned with controlling everything everyone did in life. Most people back then actually trusted government somewhat, trusted the FBI, trusted their elected officials, elections, etc. Seems like a different planet back then.

Now? I'm sure Putin and the Russians fully understand many Americans have little if any trust left in their government. In fact they probably know full well many American's have nothing but burning contempt for what their government has become. It's really hard to hide it when government's become punitive weapons against their own people while developing policies only our enemies love. Policies so damn bad, they can be mistaken for sabotage on a national scale.

Ukrainians and Russians are all related in some way. Half of the marriages in my old hometown are Russian/Ukrainians. The animosity was always between them and the Polish people.

IMO, the Deep State is trying to provoke military action between the two countries.

You can say that again.

Yep, and the Russian manufacturing export surpassed that of commodities for the first time since 1989.
It is perfectly unprofitable to build stuff in Europe with their energy policies.
Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis move factories to Russia for one thing. Most commercial vans of Dodge/Fiat lineup in Europe are going to be of Russian make in two years.

I see the West as having highly inflated currencies. High debt, high deficits, greatly negative trade balances, society flirting with marxism and allowing social chaos everywhere

Meanwhile, the Ruble dropped something like 15% during this crisis. It was already insanely cheap - a government with little debt, no external / no FX debt, high-energy reserves, highly intelligent and culturally uniform people, who have left behind marxism and desire social stability.

Russian assets of all kinds must be an absolute steal at this moment.

True, I’ve seen a study by the Chicago economist stipulating that the monthly income of $1600 in Moscow gets you a higher living standard than the annual income of $70,000 in Chicago.
Hamburger in McDonalds costs half a dollar in Russia.

Exactly - it seems Russia has gone through a kind of both domestically, but also internationally imposed deflation - while the West has been on an opposite, debt and consumption fed inflation binge.

These will begin to reverse, probably soon.
