A Dutch teenager completely forgot his native tongue after waking up from surgery and could only speak English, doctors have revealed.
The unidentified 17-year-old boy, thought to be from Maastricht, was in hospital for a knee operation following an injury during a football match.
But after he awoke from the anesthesia, he was unable to speak or understand any of the medics, who were speaking in Dutch.
Instead, he was only able to talk in English — a language he had only been learning at school and never used outside of the classroom.
The boy also failed to recognise his own parents and believed that he was in the US, specifically in Utah, a country he had never visited.
After 24 hours, the teenager 'spontaneously' recovered both his ability to speak and understand his native language after friends came to visit him.
And doctors who treated him, at the Maastricht University Medical Center, claim he has retained his native tongue since.
Detailing his case in a medical journal, scientists believe he developed an extremely rare case of foreign language syndrome.(snip)
With just eight cases recorded worldwide in scientific literature there are scant details about foreign language syndrome.
How common is it?
Extraordinarily rare, there have been only eight post-operative cases recorded in scientific literature since 1999.

The second language that people speak in these instances where people forget their native language and speak in a foreign tongue are always known by the people prior to their injury.
(Nobody wakes up with fluency in a foreign language that they never knew.)
"I'll have a schmoke and a pancake!"
What show was it? I can never get enough of Ghost Adventures lol.
A few hundred years ago, I though the same thing.

.
(Yes, kidding of course.)
No, no they don't. They just think they do.
He had a stroke and had not spoken in over a year. His wife and son came to visit and he started talking, but it was all in German. He never spoke German In his life.

I knew someone that had a similar story. Although, he actually died. He woke up speaking Navajo, and he had to re-learn English. He didn’t know any of his family or friends. His parents even said he wasn’t their son.
He called himself a walk-in.
“A walk-in is a New Age concept of a person whose original soul has departed their body and has been replaced with a new, different, soul. Ruth Montgomery popularized the concept in her 1979 book Strangers Among Us.”
It works like this.
Despite the accusation of a “false premise” I am on the solid scientific ground when I say that 95% of all the people who have ever lived are alive today. To deny that puts you in the realm of believing in a flat earth.
First, the religions that hold a reincarnation doctrine, ALL, every one of them, claim that everyone has been reincarnated multiple times.
According to Hindu/Buddhist theology, all souls were created/born/formed at the same time when the cosmic balance of nothingness was disrupted. We are trapped on the Karmic wheel of reincarnation until we clean our karma of sin and regain that perfect nothingness. Go to Nirvana. So, there should have been a large, not infinite number of souls at first and then a slow reduction in the number of souls available to be reincarnated over time as enlightenment is achieved.
That doctrine is mathematically impossible it isn’t the way that populations work. There are no exceptions to this.
We do not see that. In fact, we see the opposite.
If everyone is reincarnated dozens, hundreds, or thousands of times, and there are so many more people on earth NOW than there were even 100 years ago, where did all the souls come from?
The farther back you go the worse it gets. History tells us that in the year 100 AD there were about 200 million people on earth. today there are about 7.9 billion. It gets worse. Because of domestication, there are more animals too. More dogs, cats, cows, horses, chickens, and sheep than a long time ago. Plus non-domesticated animals like rats, roaches, and mice who came along for the ride. Since many people that believe in reincarnation believe you can come back or have been an animal, how can we all have been reincarnated?
Where do all the new souls come from? It is simply mathematically impossible!
There are only a few answers.
1. Some souls have multiple bodies. In which case, how can you tell it is reincarnation and not simultaneous indwelling? If this is the case, there is no such thing as reincarnation.
2. Some bodies have no soul, in which case the doctrine falls because how do you know your experience is real? It also means that a percentage of the population are, in effect, zombies. Or, there is no such thing as reincarnation.
3. Some souls come from somewhere else, another reality. This just moves the problem back a level but doesn’t solve it. The population should be decreasing and yet we have no evidence, none, from anywhere, except for limited times due to catastrophe, that populations decrease, rather than increase over time.
4. New Souls are being created all the time or there are infinite souls. In which case the Hindu/Buddhist text are wrong, we haven’t all been reincarnated. The question then becomes, if they are wrong about this how do we know they are right the other? We are now at the same place as above where nothing can be proved because not everyone has been reincarnated and the religions that teach that are wrong. If some of us haven’t then none of us have.
It is simply mathematically impossible for reincarnation to occur because rather than starting with a huge number that slowly gets smaller, populations start small and get bigger. And, barring catastrophes, that is always the case. Wherever you go in the universe that is probably the case. It is the nature of life.
It doesn’t make any difference because the population should be decreasing, not increasing.
When I was stationed in Germany, one of the sergeants in my unit had a bad accident on a squadron morale skiing trip.
The paramedics came out, and the guy couldn’t speak English, only German... at least for a short period of time.
I don’t remember the guy’s name, but I had been told he had been learning German on base.
This is legitimate but very strange.
I don’t know, man.
Did GOD create a finite number of souls?
Was that a joke or were you serious. I was stationed in southern Holland for 4 years and both my children were born in Heerlen Hospital. When I say the vast majority of Dutch or Nederlanders, as they call themselves, speak English very well I know it for fact.
I am not sure how to respond to someone who thinks I believe the Earth is Flat.
I have heard many different estimates, for example this one which claims the percentage is closer to 7%

Although I have seen some evidence of soulless people wandering around, that is a scary thought.
if that is the case maybe the eugenicists are correct ?
Probably European footsy-ball.
How so?
How can you possibly say that? By what variables are you making that calculation
How do you say “Cheese-eating Surrender Monkey” fries in Dutch?
Kassaende Overgave Aap.
Oh my.
That certainly is something you would be sure to know.
