Joy Reid has slammed the NFL for trying to 'sanitize Blackness' from the Super Bowl after Eminem took the knee during the half-time show.
The MSNBC host, wearing a football jersey in support of Colin Kaepernick, said she has fallen out of love with the game over its apparent inaction against racism and the lack of Black coaches in the sport, in comments echoing resident Joe Biden.
Reid and her panel of hosts noted how Eminem has been praised for taking the knee during his performance in what was nothing more than a 'performative' gesture, but Kaepernick has remained unsigned for years after starting the protest.
She said on ReidOut: 'The NFL has always tried to sanitize Blackness especially during the Super Bowl, from the halftime performances to players taking a knee, and it especially does not want to dabble in the culture wars now and tick off the conservative fan base.'
Guest Jason Johnson then added: 'Which explains why Kendrick Lamar's line "and we hate the popo" was noticeably scrubbed last night.'
'Don't think we didn't notice,' Reid responded.
She also made reference to the dispute over whether the NFL was aware of Eminem's decision to take the knee ahead of his performance.
It was initially claimed the gesture took officials by surprise, with current NFL rules effectively banning players from taking the knee during the anthem.
TOP just seems to me that it's a standard that they'd want to live up to,' Biden said.
'I don't know if there's not a requirement of law, but it's a requirement I think of some just generic decency,' he added.
On ReidOut, columnist Michael Harriot also accused the NFL of hypocrisy for writing 'end racism' messages on the end zone...

We all have noticed the commercials...almost all black models now....but it won't change the bottom line of companies. In other words, the commercials are TOTALLY political.

The half time show was not designed to entertain but to inoculate the NFL from charges of “racism”. Didn’t work did it. Why? Because no matter how far you bend over to please the real racist in this nation it is never enough.

The NFL has plenty of minority coaches. We have to get away from so called racism and return to freedom. If someone owns a business you should be able to hire whoever you want for whatever reason.
Worst half-time show ever. Knowing it would be, I turned the sound way down, and my back to the screen, (my computer is in the other direction) but an occasional glance proved what I already knew.
BTW, Joy Reid...Colon Klapperdick is way beyond his use-by date. No one is going to sign him, unless one of the head felons buys a team. Give up on that one.
