With its distinctive red wax packaging, Babybel — which first launched in its mini form in 1977 — conjures up fond memories of opening up tiny cheese presents for a quick childhood snack. But though nostalgia may draw adults to the brand, Babybel is hoping a modern twist will inspire a new generation of fans: Babybel Plant-Based.
Launched in the United Kingdom in January, a plant-based version of the classic Babybel cheese snack is slated to arrive on this side of the pond next month, according to Bel Brands USA. The company, which owns other recognizable names like Laughing Cow, said the new dairy-free cheese will join its existing plant-based products Boursin Dairy-Free and its entire Nurishh product line.
Babybel says that its plant-based variety "mimics the same great taste" of its traditional cheese "now in a certified plant-based, non-GMO project verified, and certified vegan snack." The results are said to offer "a soft, smooth, and creamy texture, developed to taste like Mozzarella" — oh, and it's now in a green wax coating instead of a red one.
"At Bel Brands USA, we believe we can set the tone for the future of the cheese industry through a consumer- and customer-centric approach to innovation that focuses on products that meet evolving demands, even as those demands continue to shift," Shannon Maher, the company's chief marketing officer, stated.

I always thought cheese was plant based. Cows eat plants and make milk from which cheese is produced.
"No, darling. We already have Cheez Whiz at home."
The package says its a “cheese alternative”, i.e., not real cheese. Consider it a trans-cheese.
That’s famunda cheese.
Usually soy oil and additives..with the consistency of rubber.
Whatever you can put into the 3D printer:-)
I once was looking at the ingredient labels on vegan products many years ago when they were a new thing and was struck by the numbers of chemicals used in producing the dammed things. I never buy anything with an ingredient label over an inch high. Those tofu products appear to be 50% chemicals.
It isn’t. At best, they should call it “trans cheese” or something.
I’ve never understood that either. I’ve had one really outstanding veggie burger in my life, to the point where I would always over it over the real burger at the same place. Otherwise, almost everything like this seems like pretend food.
But some cultures, like the Japanese, have done very interesting things with plant-based stuff.
NOPE!!! 8^) more now to mark posts but, like me, he dead yet...
I prefer my fake cheese to be in a little jar that says kraft.
I wish they still made the one with bacon.
Plant based cheese pairs perfectly with BILL GATES fake meat. /s
Another step in incrementally ridding the world of bovine products. Whoever controls the food, controls the world.
thank you...
US weedeaters, like hollyweird, are bereft of ideas so they’re reduced to imitations and remakes
Cows are already plant-based.
Sun produces solar energy
Plants harvest energy convert to bigger plants
Cows eat plants
Cows produce milk
Milk used to produce cheese.
I’m sticking with the way God made it.
Who the hell asked for soy (or whatever) based cheese? Even lactose intolerant people must be laughing at this idea.
Well, I think part of it is to serve people who grew up eating meat and still have a taste for it, but want to go meatless.
I really did LIKE that veggie burger just for itself, but I haven’t found another like it; probably because it was grilled and smoky.
Perfectly described.
You want lots of Salt and Gas eat plant based gruel
Sharp Tofu.
Tofurella.
Tofu Jack.
Gack.
I’ve never tried a non-dairy cheese substitute that was not gag-inducing.
Non-dairy cheese is the ultimate definition of processes food. Sort of like Kraft singles minus the milk but with a fancier lable.
