If you're looking for a hit of '90s nostalgia, here are 12 of the most popular websites from the naughty nineties still up and running today. From its humble beginnings at CERN, the World Wide Web has indeed come a long way since it was first invented by the respected British scientist, Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.
From plain-looking text-only websites to slow internet speeds and unreliable connections, the World Wide Web has survived and evolved into so much more, so much that we're now at the cusp of Web3.
In this article, we'll go down memory lane to the historic moments when there was only one website, then two, then three, until we cover 12 popular websites from the '90s that are still up and running.

Incomplete and inaccurate article.
No mention of Free Republic, which as we know, remains unchanged since the 90’s.

I think there have been some changes, but only technical ones. The format looks and functions slightly differently now than when the site began.

When the Clinton administration first got around to setting up a Whitehouse website in 1994, they had to go with whitehouse.gov because whitehouse.com was already taken, as a porn site.
For many years it was a porn site. Now it is a political betting and polling site.

I remember back in the 90's when I tried to go to the White House website and out of habit typed .com instead of .gov.
Considering who was in the WH at the time it seemed like I was at the official site. LOL
