Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth made a recent appearance on the PodKats podcast hosted by John “Kats” Katsilometes of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The Van Halen frontman is currently in the middle of his Las Vegas Residency which lasts for nine dates. During the interview he revealed how he was supposed to have his first residency in 1995 but was fired from the gig over an inappropriate joke telling Katsilometes

Roth is showing his age, but he was the better lead for VH.
Saw VH back in 78 at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, one of my first concerts.
I guess there could be an allegory with the show "Bewitched", as there were two Darren's.
There is no comparison between Van Halen and Van Hagar.
Intellectually Roth sounds about 18.
For pure vocal chops, hard to beat Sammy Hagar. He has a fantastic voice. But Rock and Roll ain’t opera. The chemistry (and conflict) between EVH and DLR made Van Halen way more interesting than Van Hagar.
“Intellectually Roth sounds about 18.”
I consider him similar to the WWE’s Ultimate Warrior. His interviews sounded incoherent at times but they made you laugh.
That was the magic era. David Lee Roth as singer, Eddie’s guitar was more raw than later years and Michael Anthony’s backing vocals. That was the real Van Halen.
I think it’s mostly an act, but I always heard that he really is actually an intelligent person when he’s not playing “Diamond Dave”.
Diamond Dave starting to give me this sort of vibe...
You guys are the hottest thing since Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch!
Who’s side did you take?
He’s a cop!
I still love “Airheads”!
He’s no dummy but he’s always playing Diamond Dave - that’s him. It’s no act. Watch his Rogan interview. He still cracks up at everything he says. Dave is the funniest guy Dave knows. But that’s what always made him so entertaining.
It was a lot of fun
I was working for Big 6 at that time
That was not fun
Agreed, Roth was one of the best front men ever, up there Mick and Mercury.
Oh yeah, Dave could be in the next Phantasm sequal.
There is an interview onYyoutube with David Lee Roth where the talks about a great many things. His mind is going 1000 miles per hour, but you soon realize that he’s really intelligent, and knows a a lot about a lot of things. He was going all over the place and 15 minutes later he circled back to the start of the conversation and completed the train of thought which was clarified by the detours that the 15 minutes provided.
Van Halen really was the first hard rock band that chicks could like, without becoming a “chick band”.
Roth is one weird dude. It’s no wonder Eddie and the band didn’t dump him a lot sooner…
They didn’t dump him because he was smart and a big star, Van Halen was just a local garage band. it was Roth who pushed them to sucess, It was even Roth’s idea to call the band Van Halen they had some goofy name before that. Roth even drew up the logo.
