At one time before artificial insemination and IVF, it was estimated the husband of the mother was not the biological father in 10% of babies born. In many cultures if a woman did not get pregnant after a year or so of marriage, there was no divorce but other remedies were sought.

“Harvey Galloway recently discovered her biological father is not Italian, but part Irish and Welsh.”

Well, that explains the alcoholism.

I read a story recently where the babies were put in the wrong women and they ended up switching them to the right families a few months after they were born.

Those home use DNA test kits are a mixed blessing. If you trace the lineage back far enough in some particular direction, you’re very likely to find out things you may have been better off not knowing. For medical use, such tests serve a great purpose, to warn potential parents what recessed genes may be passed on to any unborn children.

Of the people who really get into ‘researching’ their family tree, I have found some are truly just curious, while others are searching for something that is missing in their lives.
Some are searching for something that would explain why their lives are developing as they presently are.
It’s almost like consulting a Quija Board for answers.

The reason the Galloway chick could never make good spaghetti.

The Texas Pizza Bread she made raised other questions.

The Ancestry.com estimate of ethnicity is a moving target. My most recent data leans most strongly Welsh and Scot with an 8% Irish component. My wife is a big fan of the Outlander series. Ancestry notes that my lineage passes through the North Carolina area...likely part of the Scots that migrated there. My wife has an ancestor that survived the battle at Culloden, so she is all the more interested in the series.

I’ve known of so many adoptees that were bats. Obviously their mothers were bats, got knocked up, and had children who were put up for adoption, and inherited their mother’s batiness.

Mommy’s baby, Dady’s “maybe”. Some things never change.

This is why paternity tests should be normal for every baby.

I know someone who found out through an Ancestry DNA kit that the man she thought was her father is not. Also, she has a half sister who was adopted.

Irish? What a dastardly mistake!

My German mother once said to my father, “ The children got their stubbornness from your side of the family. “

My Father, not dropping a beat replied, “I would agree as your side of the family still has their stubbornness!”

They have to get a DNA test comparing only father and child DNA.

While the genealogy test is performed as accurately as it can, if you read the white paper of the supplier on how their test works, you’ll see they are correlating submitted DNA to a database of DNA that the supplier believes are associated with certain countries/regions.

This is not the same as comparing the submitted DNA to that of the father. If you compare Dad’s genealogical test to that of the kids, you’re more likely to be “surprised” because of the number of correlations performed.

Using these DNA testing sites is giving your DNA to the government.

These DNA testers have already broken secrecy at the request of law enforcement to find criminals using DNA.

The more DNA samples they have, the more they can track anyone. Even if you did not give a sample, the government can find you by using the samples given by relatives.

How long before DNA is ‘planted’ by the FBI to frame political opponents?

among other things such as solving old cold case crimes, these DNA tests have revealed to people how much infidelity went on in their families. Its more than I think many suspected.......

These home DNA tests are of limited accuracy, I don’t think they should qualify as proof in court.
