Yesterday morning I received a bleak text message. It was from the chairman of a local business association near my home in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket and contained a photograph of my local train station, usually a busy commuter route full of hustle and bustle.
It was completely devoid of life.
That snapshot spoke a thousand words: as we surpass the two-year anniversary of the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, something close to normality has finally resumed for many across the globe.
But here in our far-flung corner of the Southern Hemisphere, isolated behind our still-sealed border, we endlessly push around a hamster wheel of ever more wearying rules and restrictions.
Among them is a staggering isolation period of up to 24 days for those in households where someone has tested positive, a mandatory cap of 100 vaccinated people at public events — a devastating imposition on the entertainment industry in this, our peak summer season — and compulsory mask wearing almost everywhere, including for school pupils aged eight and up.
You might think that only a devastating upward spiral of deaths and serious illness could justify continuing such measures, not to mention introducing new ones.
Alas not. They were introduced last week after confirmation of just nine new cases of Omicron, largely centred on a family who contracted the virus on a trip to Auckland for a wedding from their home in the South Island.
Nine new cases in a country where 93 per cent of the population is now double vaccinated — but nine cases too many for our Left-wing Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, committed as she apparently is to a policy of 'Zero Covid' at any cost.

The man who wrote this article told the people of his country
“don’t be a *ickhead”
and then went on to urge people to get vaccinated.
His campaigns against lockdowns distract from his adamant pro-vax stance with the strong language.

The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, & New Zealand all have exhibited an anti-freedom agenda, led along by control freak experts & their little wanna be minions.
The left-wing in America wants to destroy our system of government because it’s a bothersome nuisance to their lust for control & power.
If the urban population and the college professors had their way our government would look like this.
1) The electoral college would be abolished and a popular vote national fraud elections would be permanent. States might go 65% to 35% for a candidate, but federalism would be dead so local control takes another hit for urban centralized control.
2) Making a parasite city like Washington DC “a state” with two senators. The democrats perform poorly in most rural low population States, so instead of getting rid of their anti rural ideology, they want to add City State senators instead.
3) Many democrats hate the Senate & would abolish our bicameral system for an inferior single body parliamentary system. The Constitution stands in the way of their nefarious wishes, which infuriates the kooks and crazies that are the democrat base.
4) Destroying or neutering the 1st, 2nd, & 4th Amendments to The Constitution. The left doesn’t like their opponents to have these rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.
The democrat-communistas have many other issues that “turn them on,” such as sexism, racism, climate change ideology. If we didn’t have checks & balances these morons might “burn up” our agriculture, industrial, and financial sectors before we could change course.
One final thought about these younger democrats that hate American history and our ancestors. They would love a President Jacinda Ardern or Justin Trudeau, they’re fans of weak and stupid leadership, which makes me want to puke.
We either destroy the woke genie or it will destroy us. Compromise is not an option in the current environment.
