For years an obscure doctor hailing from Australia’s hardscrabble west coast watched in horror as ulcer patients fell so ill that many had their stomach removed or bled until they died. That physician, an internist named Barry Marshall, was tormented because he knew there was a simple treatment for ulcers, which at that time afflicted 10 percent of all adults.
In 1981 Marshall began working with Robin Warren, the Royal Perth Hospital pathologist who, two years earlier, discovered the gut could be overrun by hardy, corkscrew-shaped bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. Biopsying ulcer patients and culturing the organisms in the lab, Marshall traced not just ulcers but also stomach cancer to this gut infection. The cure, he realized, was readily available: antibiotics. But mainstream gastroenterologists were dismissive, holding on to the old idea that ulcers were caused by stress.
Unable to make his case in studies with lab mice (because H. pylori affects only primates) and prohibited from experimenting on people, Marshall... ran an experiment on ...himself. He took some H. pylori from the gut of an ailing patient, stirred it into a broth, and drank it....Back in the lab, he biopsied his own gut, culturing H. pylori and proving unequivocally that bacteria were the underlying cause of ulcers.
Marshall recently sat down with Discover senior editor Pam Weintraub in a Chicago hotel... The man The Star once called “the guinea-pig doctor” can now talk about his work with the humor and passion of an outsider who has been vindicated. For their work on H. pylori, Marshall and Warren shared a 2005 Nobel Prize. Today the standard of care for an ulcer is treatment with an antibiotic. And stomach cancer — once one of the most common forms of malignancy — is almost gone from the Western world.

Great read thx for posting. my take is docs are still mostly quacks and are paid more for it.
“If you could, please correct the article date to April 8, 2010. Thank you.”
Doesn’t matter - the article is TIMELESS.
I’ve often wondered how much problem solving a physician is able to do - how much are they constrained by their malpractice and other insurance companies to follow the physicians desk reference like an automaton rather than actually thinking like a scientist (non woke version) or engineer.
Nothing surprising here...the game plan used against this doctor is EXACTLY what they use today against people who question ‘the science’ regarding Type 2 Diabetes.
Great observation— to wonder about that potential in a physician. Many physicians do practice what is called “Package Insert” medicine. They think this will keep the tort/injury lawyers off their backs for implied “malpractice”.
In all truth, the Emergency Use Authorization should be lifted, and the medical/legal liability realities of forced vaccinations be revealed and... in court.
This same doctor has stated that ivermectin is very effective in fighting COVID.
Continued good health, to you.
I am currently suffering with an ulcer, Anemia has caused low blood pressure and I have little to no appetite. The toilet has become my second home and I am about to lose my mind.
Omoprozole is what the doctor gave me and it not doing anything
ping
His protege found bacteria in Alzheimer plaques.
I am a long time antacid user (proton pump inhibitor). Been taking them for over twenty years. No ulcers, I’m aware of other effects of taking them long term, such as osteoporosis, which I do have. Thanks for putting this out there.
The medical community is next to useless for many issues like that.
I’ve been dealing with food allergies all my life and they are now to the point where all I can eat is oatmeal and chicken. ANYTHING else sets me off.
When I talk to doctors about this and tell them my symptoms, they just look at me like I have two heads or make inane comments like (and this is a quote) “You sure have weird symptoms”. And from that one all I got was some Nexium and told to here, try this and see if it helps.
I will add you to the list of people I am praying for with food issues.
Nothing comes up searching for HC1 ? What is it ?
So — all they gave you is an antacid.
Prilosec by a different name.
Find a Dr that’ll get you an antibiotic.
Had a doctor back in the 1990’s advocating treating ulcers with calf scours tablets, which contain antibiotics.
If I got stymied every other way, I guess I’d try it, but that’s your call.
Get the poop test for h. Pylori. If positive, get the triple antibiotic course.
Your ulcer will disappear.
Pfffttt. That does nothing. It takes days to kick in.
Please tell him to give you the antibody. They gave it to me when in pre ulcer state. Might want a different doctor: osteopath
in today’s world, Barry Marshall would be cancelled by the fascist social media and the howling mob of ignorant leftist peasants carrying pitch-forks and pitch-torches, and his medical license would be cancelled by some fascist medical board or other ...
And yet, I've read an equally stunning number of times, a concluding statement like "...despite declining protection against the virus, we STILL recommend getting vaccinated. And if you've been vaccinated, get boosted."
It's the same principle...old habits die hard, despite real (versus political) science. The purveyors of Prilosec, etc refuse to acknowledge reality. Ironically. THEY are the ones claiming that vaxx skeptics are the mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers.
