'Worst House on Best Block' of San Francisco Sells for Nearly $2 Million

A decaying, 122-year-old Victorian marketed as "the worst house on the best block" of San Francisco has sold for nearly $2 million — an eye-catching price that the realtor said was the outcome of overbidding in an auction.

A developer's $1.97 million cash offer for the 2,158-square-foot (200-square-meter) property in the Noe Valley neighborhood was finalized last week. On the social media page Zillow Gone Wild, some commenters marveled at the price while others questioned the value of a house with boarded-up windows, peeling paint and an unstable foundation.

One commenter joked: "It actually has a parking space. No wonder it sold for almost 2 million!"

Interesting aspect to the story:

Wiley said a judge approved the sale of the house after its elderly owner was placed in a conservatorship. The man's family, concerned about the way he was living, hired a licensed fiduciary to handle the sale with the proceeds going to pay for his continuing care

It’s worth what someone is willing to pay. Sounds like a good deal to me for this time in real estate history to be on that block.

“I find it hard to believe there is a “BEST” block left in San Francisco”

“Best” is a subjective term.....especially when it’s about San Fran sicko.

Last week the big Real Estate investors reported that more $$$ is being invested in San Francisco than NYC - Silicone Valley is still a big draw. The crime in SF is not chasing away big $$$$ investors.

A recently sold Victorian home is shown in San Francisco, Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. The decaying, 122-year-old Victorian marketed as

Demolishing structure attached to next door
structures, ultimately a nightmare.

Either the old man became incompetent or the family hired a shrink to get him out of the way so they could get their hands on the estate.

Judging by the state of the house, incompetent seems likely.

I understand what you’re saying

Inspire of Carol Doda it is known as Silicon Valley. Named after a material used in integrated circuits. The substance you mentioned isn’t that

Anywhere else it would be a tear down, but I am willing to bet that San Francisco will not permit it to be torn down, only rebuilt exactly as it was before.

Imagine keeping track of all the tools you’d need to restore a decrepit Victorian inside of a crime inferno.

The crime in SF is not chasing away big $$$$ investors.

It's chasing away the businesses who are selling for whatever monies they can get.

Investors and developers are buying up all the old houses and vacant lots around downtown Detroit. If owned by the city, they're just paying off the back taxers.

I was downtown a couple years ago for the first time in many years and I was amazed at the transition that was taking place. Renovated office buildings, designer stores, upscale bars and restaurants, abandoned industrial buildings converted into lofts and apartments.

Here's an example of the changes taking place along the river front:

San Francisco is probably a great place to live, as long as you are rich enough to afford servants to do all of your shopping, a state of the art manned security system, and a team of armed bodyguards protecting you 24/7.

if one bought a house in San Fran 10 yrs ago, and put up with all the crap, maybe even rented it, he now has a fortune to go buy a big nice place elsewhere....

we've had neighbors that were from California.....they had everything.....everything.....

So they knocked down the Ghetto and moved the problem elsewhere and started policing the area to make sure it's safe and free of criminals that would scare away ordinary folks who spend money.
