Ohio has landed what could become the biggest semiconductor operation on Earth. Chip giant Intel plans to officially announce Friday that it will invest $20 billion to build two computer chip plants in Jersey Township in Licking County in what will be Ohio's largest economic development project to date. State and local officials are set to gather in Newark this afternoon to celebrate the news.

Betcha the planning started under President Trump.
I’m kinda partial to the ridges cheddar/sourcream flavor ones myself.
What they typically won't tell you is that billions upon billions of taxpayer incentives are paid to these companies.
LOL
I guess the Frito Lays headquarters is the second largest chip place now. Times change.
From the article:
The project, which will be Intel’s first new manufacturing site in 40 years, eventually could involve eight factories and $100 billion in investment over the next decade including Intel and its suppliers and partners. Construction is expected to start this year, with the first chips being produced by 2025.
30 other companies are going to build nearby to support Intel.
More details:
Very good news for Ohio.
It’s astonishing that Ohio could attract such investment.
I heard through the grapevine that the car manufacturers are leaning to use Intel chips to reduce their chip shortage in the future.
“What they typically won’t tell you is that billions upon billions of taxpayer incentives are paid to these companies.”
Last June the gov’t passed a $52 billion subsidiy for chip manufacturers to come to the US and build. NO coincidence here.lol

While simultaneously Intel has (recently reported) a joint venture in China with the CCP on advanced research on next generation chips. Buying political protection at home while selling out to dictators abroad.
Needed to happen 20 years ago. We can not depend on aggressive, unstable, enemy regimes for critical parts and supplies.

Columbus Ohio has been becoming a new Silicon Valley for a long while now.
Very hi tech job base.
I know, we have a chip fab near Malta, NY (upstate) that survives on taxpayer funds. Global Foundries, originally a foreign company that was poached from Austin TX I believe because NY (taxpayers) was will to give then 50 billion.
Not under their last two CEOs.
Believe me, it's because they offered the most taxpayer dollars and subsidies and tax breaks.
I wonder how long it’ll take for Brandon to screw this up...
I have been told repeatedly here on FR that the only possible way we would ever have enough chips was to maintain a nuclear umbrella for Taiwan. Anything, including WWIII with the Chicoms, to save Taiwanese chips. This alternative course of action seems like the obvious answer to me.
