Federal has introduced a new cartridge that has been specifically designed for those who carry a concealed pistol for personal protection. They’re calling it the 30 Super Carry. From an external and terminal ballistics standpoint, the 30 Super Carry will run right with the 9mm, but offers some advantages. It generates between 10 and 20 percent less recoil, for one thing. And maybe more importantly, given magazines of the same size, it offers a higher capacity than the .380 Auto or 9mm Luger. How did Federal achieve this? They borrowed from what they learned in 2008 while developing the .327 Federal Magnum.

10mm is God’s caliber there is simply no comparison between the ballistics of the 1cm vs it’s anemic little brother. 220gr at 1300 fps is well past 357 mag territory. 9 mm is typically 350 to 400 ftlbs real 10mm when loaded to it’s full pressure is 750+ ftlbs not even in the same ball park. Set off a Glock 20 at an in door range with full pressure loads and everyone immediately turns and gawks at the three foot wide fire balls coming off the front end BOOM BOOM BOOM usually the range master comes over thinking you are shooting a SBR on the pistol side with rifle ammo which is a no no.
This is being torn apart on the non-commercial gun forums.
What we really need is a .380 super. /s
They have it loaded with a fast powder to ~50,000 psi to get enough muzzle velocity from pistol barrels.
“This round already exists. It’s called 7.62x25 tokarev. “
Longer and wider case. #0 SC has more capacity/smaller pistol.
👍
Which also is an advantage over the screaming hot Tokarev round.
Yes, but wouldn’t you really salivate for a 10.1mm with 20% less recoil and 2X the muzzle energy? Plus it does your taxes for you AND gets your undies 45.6% MORE white!!! ☺
“the three foot wide fire balls coming off the front end BOOM BOOM BOOM “
So much for getting off a second shot in a darkened house.
Hey for my wife and her CC 9mm Kimber, this lower recoil would be quite an improvement, if it is noticeable.
Can’t beat a new caliber for selling more guns!
Butt seriesly, can’t Federal just work on getting out MORE of the EXISTING calibers to drop prices?
SAAMI is an org, not a spec.
But the Tokarev has a width of 0.392, while the 30 Super Carry is only 0.344, enabling more capacity.
I do love the Tok, though. Here’s a crime novel in which the penetration power of the Tokarev plays a pivotal part in the climax: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0997539518
Put a three prong on that Glock 20 Sah! ;)
Good material for the bathroom reading rack.
No round is any better if you can’t consistently hit your target.
I think a bigger problem than the round is that most people do not practice enough. I know people that haven’t run 50 rounds through their handgun in years and are sure they can hit the bad guy in a crisis confrontation.
That hasn’t been helped by ammo cost. I have a range membership and try to go every week and run a box through the S&W. It’s hard on the wallet but you gotta keep that muscle memory.
Yay! Another new cartridge that we won’t be available to buy...
How does one explain this to their wife?
I NEED another pistol?
True. But the terminal ballistics in the Tok are absolutely fantastic. To each his own. But in the current ammo shortage a new caliber presents its own set of problems.
CC
Looks pretty good.
