Marcos Menaldo of Guatemalan outfit Deportivo Marquense has tragically died after suffering a heart attack during a training session on Monday.
The 25-year-old defender had complained he was finding it difficult to breathe during a pre-season session as he geared up for the new campaign alongside his teammates.
The tragedy occurred at the Marquesa de la Ensenada Stadium where Menaldo received emergency CPR treatment on the pitch in San Marcos before being transferred to the Hospital de Especialidades where he died.
A centre-back by trade, Menaldo was a fan favourite due to his efforts during Deportivo's successful second division title win last term, crowned Liga de Ascenso champions in December - coincidentally on the same day as Menaldo's 25th birthday.
Christian Eriksen trains with new club as he eyes emotional return to football undefined
Hernan Maldonado, Deportivo's club president, has already addressed the heartbreaking death of his player, telling ESPN digital : "One does not come out of astonishment.
"A young, dynamic and jovial person, this happens to him. It is quite strong and shocking because you lose not only a player, you lose a friend.
"God has his plans and his purposes, but unfortunately we have the death. It was around 11:00 hours that they called me to inform me that Marcos had fainted in training.
"They transferred him to the assistance centre where they did everything possible. But unfortunately, the death was confirmed."
His death is not the first to shock football in recent weeks, nor the first cardiac arrest either.
Croatian footballer Marin Cacic died in similar circumstances before Christmas after a sudden collapse in training.
The 23-year-old was diagnosed with heart failure shortly after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Too much evidence to suggest you shouldn’t be nervous.
Unless you belong to the branch covidian cult who worships boosters.
How long since his booster shot?
They all got their CCP flu vaxxines.
another death by “sudden”
you know whats going on
cmon man
Given the vaccination rate in Guatemala it's very unlikely this guy was vaccinated.
And given that Guatemala used mostly Sputnik it's extremely unlikely he had an mRNA vaccine.
But none of that matters if you can tart up a little anti-vax porn.
Fauci
vaccines are the leading cause of coincidences.
Whatever could it be?
It’s a niche that even Pornhub can’t satisfy.
This story is from 4 January.
You gotta go dark web...
“Safe and effective.”
Safe and effective what? Where does the article state that he had the jab?
If you were intellectually honest instead of being an anti-vaxx propogandist, you would have pointed out that the covid virus, itself, is known to cause significant cardiac issues:

Lol…so speaketh the FR $hot tart. 😂
Help us out here. Put up the vaccination rate in Guatemala to make your point.
Condolences to family and friends.
Not to mention how you $hot $hills are in the definite MINORITY, here.
Y’all need a new gig.
from the F.R. link you just shared:
“Dr Malhotra says that imaging data exists but the doctors who have it, voted against publishing it, in order to preserve access to drug company money.”
If true, isn’t this OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE?
It’s just a coincidence, just like the thousands of others.
And you make a supposition without any supporting facts. Most athletes have to be vaxxed in order to compete. My God, so many are so trusting of these shots without considering the increasing death toll of young athletes over the last two years.
