As a flow tester working on the Mesa gas fields in Wyoming, they burn off the gas through a stack. Just releasing the gas without burning it is considered a environmental hazard
Putting the fire out doesn’t stop the danger of the gas flowing.they need to stop that somehow
Its not that big of a hole. Build a dome over it to smother the fire. Then collect and process the natural gas and sell it.
