'I Can Take Care Of The Kids On My Own,' Says Dad While Feeding Kids Handfuls Of Shredded Cheese For Lunch

FT. WORTH, TX—While his wife was in bed with a stomach virus all day, local father Todd Fennick had high praise for his ability to care for their four kids without her.

“She needs to stay in bed today, and that’s fine, because I think I’m doing a great job, frankly,” said Fennick as he served his children a lunch consisting of paper plates holding a handful of shredded cheese, a Slim Jim, a dollop of cookie butter, and some packets of crackers that he found in the junk drawer.

Four-year-old Padme Fennick, who appeared to be wearing paper towels wrapped around the lower half of her body rather than pants, enthusiastically agreed with her father. “I love cookie butter!” she said. “And dad’s letting us watch a princess show called Game of Thrones! It’s got dragons!”

As he stepped over a torrent of fluid flowing out from under the door of the hall bathroom, the Fennick patriarch continued, “This whole parenting thing is not so hard. Just keep everybody fed and entertained. It’s a lot like living with my college roommates, and only a couple of them went to jail. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to throw a tarp over this hall carpet until my wife can handle it.”

I agree that this is a rare miss by The Bee.

Painting fathers as incompetent by default is destructive.

I found it funny — but it’s also what I just might feed the grand-kids (they’re 8 & 5) for lunch, just packaged a little differently.

Today’s lunch was string cheese (mozzarella), half a banana, some cherry tomatoes and a handful of tortilla chips and salsa. Plus 100% apple juice. They eat it, and there’s a balance, that’s what matters.

I also gave my granddaughter a little bowl of blackberries with a couple squirts of real whipped cream before she went to bed, because I was having some and she said she was hungry.

Going on 8 and has never had his hair cut. Wears it in a manbun at school. Easily mistaken for a cute girl when it’s down

Total sports nut though. Dad takes him to every Colts and Pacer home games and can reel off stats better than the talking heads at ESPN

He has pediatric MS, so he pretty much gets a pass for a lot of things from his parents. His Future is pretty grim

That’s very sad. I’d give this child a pass, too.

My girls preferred a plate of shredded mozzarella melted in the microwave

LOL. Years ago, there was a doctor couple practicing at the hospital I worked in. One day, the wife was on duty, while her husband stayed home with the kids. She had called him to check on the kids. “Have you fed them?”, I heard her ask him. After she got off the phone, she was shaking her head. “He said he had given them some purple popsicles! You would think a gastroenterologist would know to feed them something nutritious!” I’m a woman, but there was no other word to describe her, than luscious. And he was a total nerd, not handsome, at all. They were both very nice people, but it was a classic beautiful woman, homely husband pairing.
