The cruise industry is slamming the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over the agency's latest travel advisory recommending against cruise travel, which was announced after a series of COVID-19 cases were reported aboard dozens of ships.
"The decision by the CDC to raise the travel level for cruise is particularly perplexing considering that cases identified on cruise ships consistently make up a very slim minority of the total population onboard—far fewer than on land—and the majority of those cases are asymptomatic or mild in nature, posing little to no burden on medical resources onboard or onshore," the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) said in a Thursday statement shared with Newsweek.
On Thursday, the CDC updated the health notice for cruise ship travelers from level three to level four, which means the agency is now recommending that all Americans avoid cruise travel, regardless of vaccination status.
"The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high, even if you are fully vaccinated and have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose," the CDC said.
On Thursday, CLIA accused the CDC of targeting the cruise industry even though rising cases of the virus have been reported in other sectors.
"No setting can be immune from this virus—however, it is also the case that cruise provides one of the highest levels of demonstrated mitigation against the virus," the CLIA said. "Cruise ships offer a highly controlled environment with science-backed measures, known testing and vaccination levels far above other venues or modes of transportation and travel, and significantly lower incidence rates than land."

“Ironically, it might turn out that the sauna in the ship’s spa (or hot tubs) is the best early therapy for treating COVID-19!”
I’ve read that the hot tubs on ships since covid have temp limits and must be much colder than 104 deg F.

“They do hire Americans for the gift shops and entertainment!!”
I beg to differ. 2018 and 2019 the sailings we were on were getting horrible. Even the entertainment staff, doing things like trivia games, were foreigners with poor English skills. These lines haven’t been into customer concerns in a decade and more.
“In a statement, the agency said cruise lines reported 5,013 covid-19 cases on ships operating in U.S. waters between Dec. 15 and 29, a massive increase from the 162 cases reported over the prior two weeks.”
Sounds like biden et al have been sending all the test kits to the ships !! Kits coming in on Air China.
“17-day Panama Canal cruise in February, 2020. Six of us ladies of a certain age. We all got sick the last week of the cruise.”
We did close to that in December 2018. 14 day Panama Canal from Tampa. Got sick in day 8.
Hope you have a supply of 12mg Ivermectin.

“it’s working with democrats I know.”
This is all according to plan to reduce the use of fossil fuel. Cruise lines and airlines, the biggest users, have been the Greenies’ targets for years — decades maybe.
Not ONE person has died for Omicron.
Oosterdam out of Ft. Lauderdale.
Bribes to politicians work.
Pay to play.
Easy peasy.
Holland American - Carnival Corp
I did the Panama in Feb 2017 on the Carnival Pride..
Nobody got sick ...
In all the 3 dozen plus cruises Ive taken Ive never been on a ship that had any sickness as far as I know ...
I think the peak of the Omicron surge will be reached in about a week and then decline rapidly as has been the case in South Africa. By the time of my Jan. 21, it should be in a steep downslope.
The problem is that the tests have a ton of false positives so Omicron could be dead in the water weeks before the stats show it is toast.
Good luck with that The so called ‘protocols’ dont end until March 31 which means you still have to get a test and theyre hard to get right now ...
The Panama Canal cruise was the only one I’ve ever gotten sick on. All six of us got what we now believe was Covid. Since it was so early in the pandemic, we all got diagnosed with various diseases. My diagnosis was pneumonia.
CDC is infested with liberals who hate cruise ships because of dumping waste in oceans AND people on welfare can not use cruise ships.
The “waste” is mostly organic and represents 0.000000001% of the oceans, combined for all cruise ships. The cargo ships are many times more numerous and dump much more in oceans but CDC ain’t worried about them.
As for poor people unable to afford cruises, that is called capitalism. One has to work hard and use brains to succeed.
That will work just fine for me , my next cruise in at end of January and the one after that in February.
American wages are much higher than 3rd world countries. Any business prefers the most economical labor.
I don't know - Carnival's demographic makes it look like they accept EBT in the buffet. :)
Ditto on my 3 cruises since the pandemic surfaced in early 2020. And I never acquired the intestinal virus on any of my 38 cruises so far. But I have gotten sick with that virus eating in land based restaurants.
