“I do not see a scenario for any kind of shutdown,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared this week, as parts of New York were in fact shutting down all around him. Broadway canceled show after show. Restaurants closed their kitchens. De Blasio’s successor, Eric Adams, who will take office January 1, nixed his inauguration gala. There has been no March 2020–style universal shutdown, but New York is not back anymore, baby.
For Brent Young, who runs a butcher shop and two restaurants in Brooklyn, it began last week when, one by one, staff members tested positive. “It’s more or less decimated our workforce,” he says. One of his restaurants had been booked solid with parties for a week—the holidays are one of the busiest times of the year for restaurants—but people started canceling those parties too. At this point it’s not worth trying to stay open, Young says, “because the anxiety’s so high no one’s wanting to eat.” For most vaccinated people, Omicron will be mild. But even a mild cold, sufficiently widespread, can disrupt a city.

Wisconsin has 583 car accident deaths every year, so about 2 per day. All year. Every year, pretty much. And vehicle deaths ARE 100% preventable - just don’t get in your car or ride with anyone else. And don’t play in the road! ;)
You’re more likely to get gored by a bull, thrown from your horse, kicked by your mule, trampled by a cow or die in a pickup truck crash, than die from CovidBS-19.

We’re pretty much “business as usual” around here. I see a few people wearing pieces of dirty laundry on their faces, but that’s all. Everything is open and thriving.
Exactly! I haven’t had anyone say anything here to me about masks in the great state of Florida, until today. I’m walking into the grocery store and I hear something about masks. I turn around and there is a maskless guy speaking to me in broken English “where’s your mask?” I asked him if he was speaking to me and he gestured towards his maskless face and pointed at me. Mind you, I am a chick and I put up with ZERO BS from anybody about masks and I have from the start Never worn a mask, not one day I looked him square in the eye and told him “you best mind your own business, buddy, or it’ll end poorly for you.” This brave guy will walk up to a woman and complain that I’m not wearing a mask. Wouldn’t dare do it to another dude. Coward
The good part is I am on my last nerve with this crap. Anybody says anything to me is going to get an earful, possibly more and I don’t care anymore

Idaho’s 7 day average daily deaths are quite a bit down from September. Looks like double July.
NY is not like that. Their dead is about double September and 10X July.
Yep, and masks have replaced face/neck tatoos as long-range visual warnings to stay away from those people.
This whole thing is a crock.
Been like that for well over a year here. When it got warm enough last year for mask wearing to become a nasty thing, most of us tossed them. Kids went back to school last Fall, albeit a few weeks late, no masks, no distancing.
