Michigan Democrat (Haley Stevens) claims economy under Biden 'flourishing,' Republicans fire back

FIRST ON FOX: A Michigan Democrat claimed during a fundraiser Zoom call that the U.S. economy under President Biden is "flourishing," leading Wolverine State Republicans to push back

Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., not only claimed last Wednesday that the American economy was doing great, but also said it was the "best economic recovery" the U.S. has seen since the days of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"We have an economy that is flourishing. We have literally the best economic recovery since FDR," Stevens claimed in the Zoom call.

"If you want a job today, you’re going to make more money than you would’ve ever been able to in the last 20 years," she continued.

Stevens’ claim comes amid widespread inflation woes, lackluster national job growth, and a 5.9% unemployment rate in Michigan – which is solidly over the national average unemployment rate of 4.2%.

Republicans were quick to push back on the congresswoman’s assertions, with Rep. Lisa McClain of Michigan telling Fox News in a Tuesday statement that she’s not entirely sure what world the Democrats are living in.

"I'm not sure what alternate universe the Left is living in, but Americans are struggling now more than ever," McClain said. "Inflation is the highest it's been in 39 years at 6.8%, employers are struggling to fill 11 million open jobs and the supply chain crisis is causing store shelves to remain empty through the holiday season."

"The American people are smart enough to see through this rhetoric and false narrative the Democrats are pushing," she continued.

I'll bet a curbstomp video of this POS would make big bucks.

FDR worsened the Depression. It took WW2 to begin to lift the economy, and even at that, it took over 20 years to truly recover. Cutting taxes, spending and government to the bone would’ve lifted the economy in short order.

“Cutting taxes, spending and government to the bone would’ve lifted the economy in short order.”

Most people have no idea of what Federal spending was like when FDR took office. It was between 7% and 10% of GNP. Since the end of WWII federal spending as a percentage of GNP has ranged from 18% to 26%. Maybe higher now. It’s never been as low as it was prior to FDR and during his first two terms in office.

The private sector economy was caught in a trap due to a massive credit collapse in the banking system with one third of the US money supply simply evaporating. Cutting spending would have poured gasoline on that disaster. It’s not a panacea for every disease of the economy.

“But apparently war is?”

War is what?

War spending was over 100% of GNP. That created a massive amount of economic activity compared to 10% of GNP. Not an ideal way to reverse mass unemployment and not sustainable but extremely effective.

And here’s why......sap-happy Biden stupidly flooded the economy w/ easy money.

Why work when you can steal all you want?

Secret Service: Nearly $100B tax dollars stolen in Biden COVID-19 pandemic relief funds
Biden’s showering $$$$ on those who lost their jobs caused massive labor shortages

Nearly $100 billion at minimum has been stolen from Biden’s COVID-19 relief programs set up to help businesses and people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, the U.S. Secret Service said Tuesday.

The estimate is based on Secret Service cases and data from Biden’s Labor Department and the Small Business Administration, said Roy Dotson, the agency’s national pandemic fraud recovery coordinator, in an interview. The Secret Service didn’t include Biden’s COVID-19 fraud cases prosecuted by the Justice Department....

Most of that figure comes from unemployment fraud. Biden’s Labor Department reported about $87 billion in unemployment benefits could have been paid improperly, with a significant portion attributable to fraud....

Worse than that, it permanently transformed the culture. Before the Depression and massive government welfare, most people were ashamed and embarrassed to be “on the dole.” Afterwards and today, it’s seen by many as something to be proud of and expected to be given.

The last time we had true and actual across-the-board government cuts was under President Harding. It resolved the recession at the end of the Wilson regime in a year. This is a fact ignored by left-wing historians who have spontaneous multiple orgasms over massive spending, massive taxes and massive government. We were far better off with that level of government spending instead of spurring the era of ultratrillions in incurring debt.

Some state governments were able to ride out the Depression by doing precisely what I suggested (cutting taxes/spending/gov’t size). In many ways, had the Feds done little to nothing and allowed the private sector to reorganize and resolve its own problems, we’d have been well on the way to recovery long before FDR’s prolonging it and attempting to make millions of Americans wards of the state.
