We broke everything in the name of COVID

And what are all Biden's horses and all Biden's men going to do about the economy now?

I used to run a fairly large I.T. department. Every few years, we were required to power down the entire computer room while the factory underwent electrical maintenance. It was always a dicey operation to shut down systems that had been running for years. Such systems don’t like having their power cycled off and on. In spite of our best preparations, we never knew if the hundreds of computers, switches, and routers would simply turn back on. They rarely did, and we generally faced days of troubleshooting.

Our system of commerce is the engine upon which our economy depends, and it is far more complex than any computer room. It comprises suppliers, producers, logisticians, and customers all working in coordination, with precise timing. It is a complex ballet of:

Harvesting raw materials Crafting those materials into products Delivering products to waiting customers Who in turn provide other products and services to their customers And the ballet continues in perpetuity To assure that products arrive where they are needed, when they are needed, the engine of commerce includes the work of millions of companies and billions of people, working in compliance with millions of standards and regulations. In our global economy, everyone on Earth is part of the system. How’s that for complexity?

To be blunt, we were naive to think it could be cycled off and on at will. Yet when COVID arrived, we started tampering with the engine. Our all-knowing leaders ordered some businesses closed yet allowed others to remain open. They thought they understood which businesses were needed, but they didn’t.

Leaders ordered some workers to stay home yet allowed others to work — designating them essential.

You can complain about “leftists” all you want, but for me the most disturbing aspect of this COVID fiasco was seeing how many simpering cowards right here on FR had no qualms about getting on here and scolding those of us who refused to shut down our lives and our businesses back in the spring of 2020 when this whole thing started.

A few of them even have the nerve to run around now posting links to their own articles and podcasts where they posture as freedom-loving patriots standing up against mask requirements, vaccine mandates, and other ridiculous totalitarian measures that they once supported.

I call those people the “Branch COVIDians” though Ken or Karen would also do. They call me names and accuse me of spreading “disinformation” :)

Two recent overlapping religions kicked the chair out and doomed America: Covidism and TDS (election riggers) (also its helper, the Race-Lives-Matter crowd).

But its failure to ever accept Christianity was the root cause.

Covid gave them the opportunity to seize control of much of the economy. The left will never give up its dream of a controlled economy, no matter how many times we remind them that the Soviet Union was a dismal failure.

This is a very close parallel to how the Bolsheviks took control of Russia and destroyed the Russian economy with their communist agenda. The disrupted the already fragile Russian economy with collectivism, asses seizures, crop and livestock seizures and forced industrialization with existing industrial base or critical mass of skilled labor. The economy collapsed and the Bolsheviks blamed the productive members of society an liquidated them

The wicked flee when no one is chasing them. — Proverbs

Like it or not, America is a land where envy and entitlement are a political persuasion, where children are murdered in the name of convenience, where faggotry of all sorts runs amuck and is championed by many more than just the perverts and insane, where shades of Marxist ideology pollute minds and excuse hatred, where inheritances are pilfered by government, etc.

Should any be surprised that those who are active in advancing all of that that they live in fear of death too and therefore from fear constantly act stupidly and cowardly?

Did you vote for the guy who shut it down?

I know that’s not really a fair question but my bigger point would be that it wasn’t entirely crazy given how much fear was in the nation at the time. The media really did a number on most people’s heads.

The issue now is what have we learned and what do we do about it. I think most sane people have realized that the fear was largely irrational and this has been a globalist plan to destroy and take over this country. The scary part is that the fear they instilled in people’s heads is still there evidenced by the lack of pushback on vaccines for children I think is a final straw. Most in this country have gone insane. Maybe the biggest problem we have right now is that our de facto leader, Trump, helped create the vaccines, so he’s afraid to speak the truth about them and the role they are playing in the globalist plan.

Good point.

Some of the worst offenders were the “I’ve done 40 years in the military types.”
People proud of their special information and credentials, while we private sector peasants were castigated as stupid and reckless.

I’m glad to hear many of them “changed their tune.” What they were previously selling wasn’t working for me.

Who thinks this is really about the honest response to a disease?

Never let a good crisis go to waste. They saw an opportunity to impose control and they seized it. The disease was just the excuse to do so.

I really believe that for someone to think big government is a good idea they must be at some level completely disbelieving when it comes to any practical knowledge of complex systems they may have, and not just being ignorant (though that is probably the case much of the time).

I’ve, for instance, addressed how pilot programs (small, organizationally more flexible, often with motivated and competent staff) create an illusion of expected success that does not often translate over to the bloated bureaucratic efforts they help spawn.

Some years back in a Transformers fan-fiction I took advantage of the story to address this:

Then a second similar ship came down. Another Autobot/Seeker emerged and began talking with four other Seekers who had come down from another observation lounge. One of these introduced himself to Magnus, Datadraw and Cobatron as Alphadriver – their loadmaster for the rest of the cycle.

If anything, Alphadriver was even more demanding than Trickshot had been. With good reason too: four autoloaders were now competing for the same small cargo bay doors with odds and ends easily as dangerous as before. Predictably, loading was finished a lot quicker.

“Magnus, I’ve reviewed your answer to Professor Nine’s question,” Battletech began as he helped to inspect the cargo, “what do you think about things now?”

“The autoloaders are still operating below their capacity but the limit seems to be imposed by multiple teams and limited door space.”

“So you think the autoloaders are over rated for the job?”

“No, Sir. Just that the cargo bay door is too small.”

“Good. That’s called a ‘logistical constriction’ ... the basic idea is that any given system has a limiting factor imposed by conditions which cannot be safely, economically or tactically overcome. We could run one or two autoloaders full out with a ship of this class. Add a third though and they all need to slow down to allow for safe access. A fourth slows everything individually down more, but not enough that actual loading isn’t faster than with three. Diminishing returns ... the harder you push – when you push really hard – doesn’t mean that the obstacle is going to move that much faster.”

“So dynamic systems aren’t like simple ones ... bigger or stronger isn’t always better. Dean Battletech, you said that this idea applies to tactical considerations too. Why?”

“Sometimes it’s just a matter of terrain which can only support so many troops and allow them all to be reasonably effective. More often it’s a matter of command and control. Have you seen or met Maximus?”

“The Supreme Commander? No, Sir.”

“Great and gallant hero, brilliant tactician, fine and wise individual ... but much too big! It takes so much just to get him to the battlefield that the fighting is done by the time he can deploy. Some idiot’s brilliant idea that more is always better has condemned him to never actually get in the big fight. Even worse, he’s never even set foot on Cybertron and probably never will while he’s alive. On the other hand, his size and no expense spared specs enabled him to be equipped as if he were Primus himself, easing the command and control constrictions even if he’s his own tactical foil.”

“Dean Battletech, why is it so hard to get him to a battlefield?”

“It isn’t. Besides the Nemesis he has two more transport battleships available just for that purpose; however, he’s a victim of his own power and value. So long as Maximus holds himself in reserve an enemy has to keep forces in reserve to counter his potential appearance – usually Guardian Autobots by the dozens all scattered about. They also have to hold onto enough big artillery to try to shoot him down on the way in. So being there but not fighting actually takes some of the most valuable assets for the other side off the board. On the other hand, he and those battleships represent such a threat that every other target will be ignored once they come in range ... and loosing Maximus and his more subtle capabilities for even a short while would be a devastating blow. Simply put, even Cybertron can’t afford to replace him ... at least not without hardship that may be unacceptable.”

“We” had nothing to do with it. Many of “us” were shocked and dismayed by the stupidity of our “leaders”, never bought their b.s., and saw from the start that this whole thing was a nightmare and a disaster entirely created by stupid, tyrannical, power-hungry, egotistical narcissists, “journalists”, bureaucrats, and “experts”, aided and abetted by frightened, intellectually lazy fools who blindly went along, and are the sort who continue to wear masks alone in their cars to this day, and who eagerly line up for the next demonstrably useless and dangerous jab.

I worked in a refinery years ago. The plant had to be shut down for some major repairs. Takes days to shut one down then the start up process takes a while also. All it takes is one thing done out of order and you have a huge mess on your hands.
