Cash was king in the early 80’s
CD’s at banks were paying 15% plus.
This time around I think it will be Hard assets.
Land, Gold, Beans, Bullets
I do know.
Yes it does.
Personally, I think this nation is at, or beyond,
the point where our hope can only be in Divine
intervention - seriously.
When you look at all that this nation, and all of mankind,
has 'muddled through' - all of the wars, revolutions,
Depressions ('Great' and otherwise), pandemics, the Cold War, etc. -
and now 'we' (meaning primarily the USA) sit on the cusp
of such awesome potential - while at the same time being
on the brink of either destruction or back-sliding back into a new
"Dark Ages' - it's hard to dispute that Divine Intervention
is all that has ever gotten us 'through it all' -
and to where we are today.
We have to rely on - and hold fast to - the idea that we'll
'make it through' - yet again - to find and make a world
worth living in.
I can't seem to make my thoughts on this clear right now -
my mind just feels so overwhelmed by it all.
Must have had too much coffee this morning already...
Not much discussion is offered on the effects inflation has on the value of our currency on the global market especially regarding imports and exports.
Why ?
While we internally destroy the value of our currency, wages, the dollars purchasing power and dilute the savings and retirements of Americans you have to wonder who benefits most ?
If I was a Wall St co-owner in a Chinese company I would expect to be recognizing fat profits out of this game, surely enough money to share with other sleeve bags in politics and media.
Bingo! Well said.
There remains, of course, the issue of our political party in opposition learning how to recognize specifically who "they" (anti-MAGA's) is and then single-mindedly and effectively dealing with them.
Anti-MAGA's do not represent one of two possible ways to reach the same goal, rather they represent an accelerating corrosion. So long as they hold sway, voting alone as a remedy means very little.
“ This is going to happen again eventually.”
They won’t, they can’t, without destroying the federal edifice they’ve built to make themselves the Uber-wealthy. Interest rates will remain at or near zero in order to keep the federal government “operating.” They’ve chosen to inflate their way out of runaway debt - or if not out of it (as they are expanding debt so rapidly they can’t really catch up to it) at least allow them to keep the system moving ahead while those rates remain docile.
It is the standard of living of average, working Americans that will take the hit. They’re OK with that too…climate change is what is really responsible, wink, wink. But here is an iron-clad rule…when standard of living decreases, violence increases. The last world war was the result of one of these episodes. When the American standard of living, which had been relatively recently the highest standard by far in human history, takes the hit from this, the river of blood that will be spilled here will make the Mississippi look like a desert wadi.
Yes, it will come

Hi Scott, brilliant post
You mean when the poor dont get their checks or find out their checks are worthless then there will be trouble? Is that what you’re saying?
It’s not impossible though I think we might be a few years away from it.

Yes, that’s one of the things I was saying. I was also saying the ranks of the poor will grow exponentially and many who lived a good life not very long ago will suddenly find themselves in a situation where their ability to maintain anything close to that will be removed. And when grocery stores must close up to stop from being the next (and ultimate) choice for the growing ranks of smash and grab…things will become hot and the anger will become overwhelming. Hunger and want combined with the recent memories of a high standard of living is a far greater fuel for chain reaction than plutonium.
(and many who lived a good life not very long ago will suddenly find themselves in a situation where their ability to maintain anything close to that)
I’ve been through that. Still am to a significant degree. I hear from other FReepers who have experienced the same - they PM me.
I have been prepping since the 2008 crash. The next one will be worse, IMHO.

Actually been doing that for years.
Just took a quick look at the dates,
earliest I saw goes back to 2014.
Still good.
