and it sits at the entrance to the red sea.
I hope we are there in some capacity, even as just eyes and eats.

They’re going to Djibouti. The U.S. has a base there, as do the Chinese.

It aint rocket science but “loose lips, sink ships”

“...why do we need to be in Africa?”

Because all of our problems at home have been solved. Duh!

Maybe they are there to secure the relocation of 1000’s of Omicron variant patients and economic and religious (islamic) refugees fleeing the oppressive Christian, government of Ethiopia.

This is Army and Coast Guard. Army for the base, and USCG for Port Security (and Navy of course).

My son is in the guard. Just returned from a year there. Covid lock down. 12 hrs on watch. 12 hours in the bunk. Not much else to do.

The Guard should be under state control unless activated by Congress. As it is now, the president can play with the Guard whenever he feels like it.

The National Guard is under state control and doesn't go anywhere without the governor's approval. The Virginia governor, Racist Ralph "Blackface" Northam, signed off on this deployment.

Interesting. I thought that the president can federalize the Guard, and then send it anywhere he wanted. The states are a check against federal power. So If I’m wrong about the Guard here, I’m happy that I’m wrong.

Because we are ruled by criminals.

The governor of states with a good National Guard and fiscal solvency tell the Feds that they're deploying to nice places like England, Germany, Spain, or Italy that also had high per diem pay.

Bankrupt blue states such as New York regularly send their Guard units to the sandbox over and over again. It's a win-win for the blue state; they get desperately needed Federal money and if they chase out Guard members due to frequent deployments to bad locations, that's fewer Guard members on the state budget.

This opinion is not in line with the SCOTUS decision of Perich vs Department of Defense.

Perpich v. Department of Defense, 496 U.S. 334 (1990), was a case decided by the United States Supreme Court concerning the Militia Clauses of Article I, Section 8, of the United States Constitution, in which the court held that Congress may authorize members of the National Guard to be ordered to active federal duty for purposes of training outside the United States without either the consent of the governor of the affected state or the declaration of a national emergency. The plaintiff was Rudy Perpich, governor of Minnesota at the time.

This is a further reason for states to maintain a viable state military force outside of direct federal control. The Army and Air Force National Guards are reserve components of the US Army and Air Force. Remember, the National Guard did not exist before 1903.

The feds can ask for a Guard unit to deploy and the Guard unit can shortfall a whole bunch of the slots. I witnessed it first hand where the better Guard units insisted on going to cool places and the blue states would take the scraps.
