Earlier in the pandemic there was a publication from India in which they examined the pore sizes of cloth masks. The pore size was typically around 500nm. The virus is 100nm in diameter. So obviously they do not work.

Face masks are a totem for the irrationally fearful to clutch at in order to fool themselves into thinking they can exert some control over the uncontrollable. It’s purely magical thinking, not science. Might as well buy a quartz crystal necklace or pyramid hat and wear that to stop viruses.

Masks are not supposed to reduce the rate of infections. They reduce viral load and therefore tend to reduce severity of disease and deaths. That’s all fllks.
It’s not obvious to me that “mask mandates” as implemented do anything positive - but the literature on mask mandates comparing “mandate” with “non-mandate” almost never assesses the % of mask wearers in a mandate vs no-mandate area.
Anyone who has ever taken a course in virology (or worked in a virology lab) knows that cloth masks cannot do the job. They are pretty much worthless. You need a positive-pressure full face (or body) respirator system with its own contained air supply. Mask-wearing is silly. A sign of compliance. Not much else.

Oh… so the last 100 years of science didn’t suddenly change in 2020… except for the fact that Dr. “I am the science” Fauci deemed it to be.
Even Fauci knows (or used to know) that. When someone panics, and says “do something!”, this is what they get. You do it so they’ll stop screaming, even if it’s just a gesture. Governments are famous for meaningless gestures.

A lot of heavy duty maskers in my apartment building. I got all sorts of dirty looks for not wearing a mask, back in the heyday of idiots applauding dancing nurses at 7 PM every evening. But now I’ve noticed that even some of the hardcore maskers are taking off the mask.
I think that some of these people are keeping the mask on strictly because they don’t want me to see them take it off, because that would mean that I have won, since I’m not dead yet, and the COVID hysteria continues on indefinitely.
They are effective if someone is actually sneezing and coughing in blocking large droplets. But someone that sick wasn’t likely going out anyway...
Masks are political obedience flags and it makes little girls part of the club.
