No - they don’t if the virus is aerosolized (like Covid is) and is smaller than the mask pores.
So yes - a gas mask will work. An N95 mask will work.
Your average face diaper will not.

Viral load is a measure of the amount of virus INSIDE someone’s body, so it’s impossible for an externally worn mask to reduce that.
