The Justinianic Plague is the first known outbreak of bubonic plague in west Eurasian history and struck the Mediterranean world at a pivotal moment in its historical development, when the Emperor Justinian was trying to restore Roman imperial power.
For decades, historians have argued about the lethality of the disease; its social and economic impact; and the routes by which it spread. In 2019-20, several studies, widely publicised in the media, argued that historians had massively exaggerated the impact of the Justinianic Plague and described it as an ‘inconsequential pandemic’. In a subsequent piece of journalism, written just before COVID-19 took hold in the West, two researchers suggested that the Justinianic Plague was ‘not unlike our flu outbreaks’.

Oh, really, did you ever have to flee town because rioters were running down your street carrying loot on their heads, while 10 or more blocks of 3 streets are burning within sight of your house? And then come back to town with troops and a tank in the circle up the street?
Although the January 6th riot on Capital Hill were shocking, they were not anywhere near as scary as the MLK riots in the same city were. Nor were the recent BLM demonstrations, and some of the bad behavior that occurred at those times anywhere near as scary as the MLK riots.
With perhaps baboons as jockeys.

In the water, hippos are psychotic defenders of their territory.
They can literally cut a full grown crocodile in half with one bite. I saw a nature film once that showed multiple episodes of crocs swimming for their lives in every direction when hippos entered the water.
On land, hippos are lot more vulnerable, especially to carnivores that hunt in packs.
Hippos usually wander inland at night to forage, especially in agricultural areas. If humans have the bad luck to get between a hippo and the water, the hippo will instinctively try to trample the human, which results in dozens of human fatalities every year.
About 10 years ago, biologists determined that the closest living relatives of hippos are...wait for it...whales!
How about the 2016 riot, the Ferguson riots, the Antifa/BLM burning of police stations and wrecking urban centers...

I looked for and at a number of articles comparing rioting for the MLK assassination and the george floyd murder. So far as deaths are concerned I encountered the figure 43 deaths for MLK events, and 6 for George Floyd unrest. In DC alone, I recall about 8 killings at the MLK time, including one traveling white man who stopped for gas and was pulled from his car and beaten to death. It was about that time my husband and I decided to go to my father’s shore cottage in NJ. for a few days. We were living about 7 blocks from 14th and U Streets, which are mentioned in the 2 links below as focal points for MLK protests.
The first day after the assassination we were let out of work early. I worked downtown in DC. It took me 4 hours to get the 12 city blocks from my office to my street traffic was moving so slow. When I got home, no husband. I filled the bathtub with water (I could already see the smoke rising from 14th street, 5 blocks away), I carried boards, hammer and nails to the front large windows and had buckets for water if needed. Looters were running down my street carrying cartons of liquor. I packed our valuables in a suitcase, and prepared food to take with us if we left town. Husband finally arrived. He had been helping friend rescue girlfriend from an embassy where she worked. Husband was a Korean War vet and he was very agitated. He wanted to run for the car and get out of town fast. I calmed him down and we finallty walked to the car with food and suitcases, and drove far around the trouble spots to the other side of town to the highway to NJ. We returned 4 days later, and found a tank and soldiers stationed at the circle at the end of my street. I never had the sense of fear when George Floyd demonstrations and small riots were taking place although fortunately I only was visiting friends in the same area where I once had lived. However, when the Jan. 6th events were occurring, I made sure my pistols were in good condition and readily available, because the many hours I watched TV that day were really scary.
