These perforated shells, dating back 150,000 years, are believed to be the world's oldest jewelry. Assumed to have formed necklaces and bracelets, they were discovered in the Bizmoune cave near the coastal resort of Essaouira in Morocco. Researcher Abdeljalil Bouzouggar described them as "symbolic objects that can only be transmitted through language."

Researcher Abdeljalil Bouzouggar described them as "symbolic objects that can only be transmitted through language."

They can't just be jewelry, they have to have a religious connotation, they just can't help themselves..........

The article doesn't mention how they were dated.

Anybody that's done any beach combing has seen thousands of similar small shells worn away by by tidal action against harder shells or rocks. And found in a cave near the coast. Mystery? Maybe not.

Need a macro photo of the presumed man made perforations.

The shells, assumed to have formed necklaces and bracelets, are dated as 142,000-150,000 years old, according to researcher Abdeljalil Bouzouggar. These were found in a cave along with human remains dating to 315,000 BC discovered in 2017. They didn’t walk from the beach to the cave, nor did the conveniently arrange themselves in a neckless pattern.

It doesn’t mention how they’re so sure it’s jewelry.

Still doesn’t mention the dating method, rather critical in science articles, no?

As far as being found in the proximity of human remains... not arguing that humans didn’t collect them, just seek proof that the “perforations were done by human hands and not natural beach erosion.

Covid got you cranky bro?

“t doesn’t mention how they’re so sure it’s jewelry.”

Must have been a cave painting receipt nearby.
;>)

A friend once postulated that ancient animal depictions found in caves were actually menus in cave restaurants advertising fresh kills of the day...as opposed to carrion left overs.

It has 15 pieces— thus appears to be from a quinceanera, a girl`s 15th birthday celebration entry into womanhood.
