• Manager Danny Vyas told a 911 dispatcher that he wanted her out because, 'I know that you didn't like the room and you have reviewed us'
• The booking website only refunded Leger after questions from reporters 

A grandmother says she was kicked out of a Georgia hotel by police in the middle of the night after she left a bad review online, forcing her and her six year-old granddaughter to walk to an nearby hotel in their pajamas.

Susan Leger, 63, was on the first of her three-night stay at the Baymont Inn & Suites in the mountain town of Helen, Georgia in September when she got a call from the hotel manager telling her she had to leave.

It came shortly after booking site Hotels.com asked her to leave a review post-check-in. Leger did, branding the property 'run down'. She also complained that her room's toilet did not flush properly and that the pool was closed.  

'My granddaughter's like clinging to my leg and crying so hard. This was scary. This was just horrifying,' Leger told WXIA.

Police then showed up to remove her and her 6-year-old grandchild, writing in a report that management wanted her out because she 'had given the hotel a bad review.'

That might have been the only ‘crime’ they had to work on that night. Helen is nice, but pretty sleepy outside of Oktoberfest.

After watching the video, it is clear that the manager is a fool. And Hotels.com comes of very badly, too. She did not get a refund from the hotel and Hotels.com has a "no refunds" policy. Considering the fact that Hotels.com asks the guests to write a review after checking in, and that hotels.com then forwards the reviews to the hotels; one would think the website would have the customer's back, but they didn't. It wasn't until the TV station got involved that she received the refund 2 months later.

The TV reporter also checked into a room as a test. The place was a dump. He also left a bad review, but the overzealous manager did not kick him out.

If you read the story, she was prompted by hotels.com to leave a “post check-in review” immediately after she checked in.

I would think that any decent cop would have listened to the complaintant, then spoke to the grandmother with the little kid and either told the manager to pound sand - or apologized to the grandmother and offered them a ride to the next hotel.

Must be a very low-wage police dpeartment there.

We went to that old casino! Had lots of fun. Then the next day we took 50 to 93 and headed to Vegas. Enjoyed driving through Pioche, Panaca, Beverdam and Caliente.

But we were sure we made a detour to 375 to visit Rachel and have lunch at the Little A’Le’Inn - good burgers. ;-)

I think it unlikely that there’s a budget friendly hotel in Helen. It’s a pretty expensive place except for inner tubing the river and grabbing fast food for a meal.

From what I can tell, GA hotel/motel prices have generally increased 25-50% compared to a year or so ago. Same generally for apartments, rentals and homes. It’s nuts.

If she paid for the room it is a legal contract. And the manager is an @$$. Unless he is also the owner or the owner’s relative I expect he will be fired. Who wants to rent a room with a manager like this running things?

I was just thinking of what I know about Baymont Inns.

A generally average, decent, ordrinary family friendly hotel off the interstate with an outdoor pool. A safe bet, not usually found in sketchy areas.

Not if she didn’t violate the terms of the contract when she paid for the room. It is a legal contract and the hotel is bound by it.
