Many outside of Greece believe that Mount Olympus — like Atlantis — is a mythical location that exists only in Greek mythology, says Greek journalist and director Athina Krikeli.
Krikeli, who has lived in the United States for the past 25 years, spoke about her experience on the subject to the Athens News Agency radio station. Over the past decade, Krikeli has been working on a series of documentaries with the goal of making the famous mountain — the tallest in Greece — known worldwide...
“After showing the first short documentary about Olympus, initially in New York and then in some universities in America, I realized that the reaction everywhere was the same: But does Olympus exist? Is it not a mythical mountain?”
...Mount Olympus is one of the great treasures of Greece. It is a famous not only because of Greek mythology but because of its great beauty and the challenging climbs it offers to adventurers.
For untold thousands of years, it has inspired hundreds of stories and myths.
The peak of Olympus was reached for the first time on August 2, 1913 by the Swiss climbing team of Frédéric Boissonnas and Daniel Baud-Bovy, who were assisted by a mountain guide called Christos Kakkalos.
Kakkalos remained the official guide for Olympus until his death in 1976.
It is estimated that around 10,000 people climb Olympus every year, with most of them only reaching as far as one of its secondary peaks, called Skolio.

Stupid article is stupid.
Mt Olympus is an actual mountain.
Mt Olympus - the village of the gods - is a myth.
Pfft - that’s obviously a navel Orange and misinformation! ;)
The myths surrounding Israel are just myths.
Is it not true, that Christians have walked into lands, other than Israel, and discounted the local beliefs as trash?
So now, in 2021, Iceland is now Asatru. Scandinavia is returning to the Norse religiion. Greece has a resurgence of Hellenismos. There are portions of Eastern Europe returning to the Byzantine Christianity.
Now, as far as my homeland goes, in a 20 year period from Plymouth Rock, and still just a bunch of British fundamentalists, they hung a young girl in their mania about “witchcraft”.
Now, in 2021, Wicca was recognized in the 1976 U.S.Army Chaplains Manual. Spiritualism has been on a slow upswing from the early 1900’s publication of Madame Blavatsky’s thoughts on Theosophy. Then in the 1950’s, Alaister Crowley’s works became well known, followed by Gerald Gardner’s works. Lastly, polls taken in the last 5 years have shown a turning towards spiritualism on thre increase.
So, in the land that has been established and advertised as the land of religious freedom, that freedom has taken off, with a bunch of folks standing there, jack-jawed, muttering: “ We, we didn’t mean THAT!”
Religious freedom for all, or for none?
Freedom in general and the free exercise of religion in particular, stops at the actual (not the mythical political pandemic) threat to another’s physical safety.
Holy cow. That makes Yellowstone seem insignificant.

The Yellowstone caldera measures 43 by 28 miles (70 by 45 kilometers) WIDE
Mons Olympus over 21.9 km (13.6 mi or 72,000 ft) HIGH
LOL - I loved that cartoon when I was a little kid. “Olympiaaaaa!”
Have they ever located the corresponding Mount Ida near Troy? Zeus had several roosts around the Med & Black Seas
Back in the late 70s a local UHF station would air a half-hour of Hercules cartoons, followed by Speed Racer, then the Uncle Floyd show.
Good ol’ days.
That looks like a fly on green cheese. Sure thats not the moon?
There’s nothing stupid about it.
Then, by your axiom, the Buddhists, Taoists, and Conficianists, are of no threat to anyone, are they, since they neither proselytize nor demand conversion.
Buddhists, Taoists, and Conficianists are constitutionally free to practice their religion as long as they don’t threaten violence on others.
That is one reason Islam is not to be tolerated in the United States.
That is, organized Islam should not to be tolerated in the United States.
:^)
That’s what she said.
