DOT Secretary Buttguy is correct. I have been using racist highways since my early childhood.

We lived in an area with an unpaved dusty gravel road which they tried to control with oil spray occasionally. One day a miracle happened. Big dump trucks filled with "blacktop" appeared and commenced to creating a brand new racist "blacktop" road for all of us white racists adults and children. Although created for our white use, black people and other assorted minorities were allowed to use it without cost or limitation.

For years, from bicycles to cars, we loved that undusty racist blacktop highway. From that time until today we never had a single protest about that racist blacktop highway ... until the arrival of the new mentally ill DOT Secretary.

Guess we can’t call black top roads that any more. Wait ‘till the LBGTQ gets going. Why are so many roads straight? OTOH they do both ways so...

Maybe Buttigieg should understand that, mostly, the highways came first and then the low-rent neighborhoods popped up around them.

The same issue was raised when people bought low-cost housing near airports and then complained about the noise from the airports.

The reverse discrimination cases came about after the abysmal Kelo decision, when city councils in South Florida started condemning homes on the Intracoastal Waterway that were owned by people who bought them 30 years earlier, because the property was now "too good for them."

They wanted to oust the early South Florida settlers (ca. 1970s) and use the land to build luxury yacht marinas. They eventually lost their eminent domain cases.

Similar situation in Middletown,NY. The Orange County Fair Speedway has been there for over 100 years, one of the oldest in N America. Instead of being grateful for the business and tax revenue the fairgrounds generate people who moved near there bitch and moan about the noise and traffic congestion. You move next to a race track, yeah it'll get a bit noisy on the weekends from April-October, DUH! A few miles south around the "black dirt" region (hmmm, that name seems a bit problematic 😀😃😀) in Pine Island a bunch of mc mansions were built. The Karens and Chad's who moved there conplain about the slow moving farm vehicles slowing up traffic on CR1 and, during those hot humid days in the summer the unmistakable aroma of cow manure wafting in the air. These schmucks had the means to buy those overpriced houses they should've had the sense to realize that this is what to expect when you live near farmland.

I have an idea for bootyjizz:
If highways are actually racist, we can test this out by running a pilot program in an area plagued with race issues.
We simply demolish all highways in said area abd then check if racial problems change.
We can test this out in Los Angeles or San Fran as a pilot.

Not to mention the Robert Moses Causeway on Long Island named for a..... RACIST. Oh, the huge manatee!! Also in New Square, a large Orthodox Jewish community in Rockland Cty is a big subdivision where all the streets are named after dead Presidents.

Yep I am a racist when I use the Tappan Zee (newer name now) bridge in central NY to get around NYC. It much faster (racing) and cheaper on the tolls to get through NY state. I also don’t have to spend any more money ( I don’t fill up or buy food) and I don’t have put up with the city and Northern NJ crap.

Pete does not help himself by appealing to his sexual preferences in holding public office and in having no serious credentials in the way of public transportation. He means well, but we need much more than that given the global mileu in terms of basic logistics.

Saw this over a dozen back in Neptune NJ; developers wanted to demolish the single-family homes of lower- to middle-class residents (mostly black, several whites), and the residents fought them in court. The project was abandoned due to resistance; instead of calling the area “blighted” (it wasn’t) the developers simply said it was “in need of redevelopment”.

The homeowners rightly recognized that they could never afford the new units that would replace their homes...
