There’s a hold my beer joke in there somewhere....I just can’t pull it out.
Good police work!
I am reminded of a SLy & Family Stone song from 1969;
“Somebody’s Watching You!”
Florida Man cannot be stopped; we can only hope to contain him.
Good. Probably thought he got away with it.
Robbery isn’t motive enough?
“Stough was charged with first-degree murder with a weapon.”
I’ve never understood what difference a weapon makes in a murder. Is someone who has been stabbed deader than someone who was bashed on the head?
“Using a droplet of the unknown individual’s blood recovered from the handle of a freezer,”
“Detectives focused on Stough, who they said had worked at the convenience store for some time before Paquette.”
Not hard to see what the defense is going to do with that.
I wonder how many formerly cocky homicidal maniacs have been getting a little nervous lately about leaving DNA in public. Because of the genealogy relational tracing, the rate of solving old cold cases are just going to increase.
God Bless Orange County's cold case heroes...
“Detectives also said Stough lived in an apartment across the street from Paquette in 1996 and would often frequent the store.”
Lived across the street from the guy he killed, stabbed the clerk 73 times and cut his throat. Either the killer had/has anger management issues or more likely he had some beef with the guy.
Soon to be featured on “20/20” or “Dateline” or whatever show it is where Nancy Grace says a bunch of annoying stuff. (Are those shows still on?)
I would love to see Florida Man’s arrest file sometime.
Investigators Cracked 1996 Cold Case Murder Thanks to Beer Cans: Deputies
Good police work. Always keep possible evidence of a crime, esp rape and murder. Technology is a crime fighter’s timeless friend.
Too many comments from the brilliant lawyers here to really know how this is going to turn out.......
I have now done some research, and found an article which indicates that Stough’s blood was found in many areas at the crime scene:
“Authorities say blood samples from multiple areas within the store were sent to a crime lab. It was determined all came from the same previously unknown person.”

This makes it extremely unlikely that he is innocent.
