I like mashed potatoes, but don’t eat them for Thanksgiving because they just take up room on the plate (and in my stomach) where I can put something I only get at holiday time. I also don’t eat rolls, unless they’re something really special, for the same reason.

Um.... no. I’ve lived in Maryland my whole life and collard greens? Nope.

How did Cranberries ever get into this feast? Yuk.

Best side...stuffing.

One of the best sides I ever had was baby peas with artichoke hearts. The chances the Pilgrims had that?? LOL

Many might say sweet potatoes, it my family it typically was special cranberry and nut concoction. For me, the veggie of choice is the brussel sprouts, best if in a tasty casserole.

I dislike these sorts of rankings. The assumption is “most searched” equals “most popular”. All it takes is one local news story with an “ewwwww!” factor to skew the results. Besides that, the REAL favorites don’t have to be “searched” because people know them so they don’t have to look them up.

Collard Greens my butt.

I’ve never heard of a single person here in MD that even had Collard Greens on TG. East, west, or in between.

This must be a “Baltimore” (i.e., demographic) thing.

I’d think stuffing is #1.

As far as “unusual” (but how is collard greens usual?) - we do seem to like our sauerkraut. I have to be careful or I might miss out buying the best before TG and Xmas.

The one for Texas (creamed corn) is accurate for our house. We always have John Cope's Dried Sweet Corn.

I’ll argue that mashed potatoes is not a side dish. Turkey and potatoes is the main dish.

Maine the stuffing state. CT the mashed tater state. I'll take both with that turkey and gravy please.

I like the greenbean/cream of mushroom casserole with the crunchy onions on top, too, but it's not a big hit with the rest of the family.

Minnesota and Missouri’s pick of a charcuterie tray.

Had to look that up. Big Hickory Farms box and some fruit on the side. Our families night before Christmas snack fest before bedtime. Great memories and good pictures.

PCSed to Germany just before Christmas with no furniture in the house and little food, but Grandma had sent us the largest Hickory Farms box available and we lay on the floor, picking and eating and laughing most of that first night.

NJ: Stuffed Mushrooms?

Seriously?! I question the accuracy of this poll.

Mac and Cheese in Virginia and Vermont? What is it with those "V" states?

While I'm generally a fan, that dish is not part of my Thanksgiving culture and heritage, and anyone who puts that on the table is shoving their priviledge at me. I would absolutely sic the Squad on them.

Drifting off topic: I don't like birthday cake, and my wife knows it. So one year she offered to try out a new Wolfgang Puck mac/cheese recipe for me instead. Sure!

Hours later the kitchen looked like a bomb had gone off... she had worked so hard on it and must have used every pot in the house. I thought we'd have to call ServePro to clean it up. I'd never tell her this, but Kraft in a box would have been just fine with me.

Wolfgang Puck's Mac and Cheese has not made a return appearance on our table.
