I was in high school in ‘76. I only remember the name, no panic or news.
I was just a boy that year, delivering newspapers for about $15 a week - good money back then for an 8th grader.
I was in the Army then, don't recall getting the shot but I'm sure I had to get one.
the swine, and then bird flu were trial runs to see how scared the public woudl get- and how complaint they would be- the dems didn’t quite dare force people to get vaccines back then- but now they don’t care- and will milk this current pandemic for all it’s worth, with more to come-
I remember the bird flu one pretty well (i remember the swine flu one- but it wasn’t as hyped as bird flu if i recall correct?)- They tried to frighten everyone with constant “It’s coming, hunker down” articles and news reports- it was nonstop- but not enough people ‘took it seriously’ according to the left for them to try their nonsense lockdowns and mask requirements-
The left tried this before- in 1918- They tried to claim ‘many complied’ but i doubt ‘many’ did

When Mask-Wearing Rules in the 1918 Pandemic Faced Resistance
Most people complied, but some resisted (or poked holes in their masks to smoke).

The left have been trying ever since then to force folks to comply- they finally got their wish with covid
I was in boot camp at Lackland AFB in Texas in September of that year. They made us all take the jab and a lot of people got sick as a result, including me. I was in the infirmary for a week.
Never knew they turned out to be dangerous.
That is the year i finished my navy c school in Mare Island, and landed on the USS Nimitz on the way to the USS South Carolina. Do not remmember much about flu.
I was on active duty at Pease AFB,New Hampshire in 1976.At that time I was a member of the 509th Security Police Squadron of the Strategic Air Command.
That December we were required to get the Swine Flu Injection. I got my Injection about a half hour before going on duty as a Patrol Dog handler and New Hampshire iss damned cold during December.
Anyway I went on duty and about 3 hours later I became Feverish,Burning up,dressed in a Cold weather Parka and all of the other gear I had to carry or wear.
I worked my entire shift burning up while freezing because of the weather.
When I got off Duty I went back to the Dormitory where I slept for 12 Hours. By then the Fever was starting to break.
At that time I swore to myself that I would Never, ever take another Government mandated vaccine. I still have not taken the ChiCom virus Vaccine. Crazy Joe Biden can kiss this veterans rear-end.
I remember the rush to get inoculations for the elderly. More old people died standing in line waiting for the shot than came down with the Flu.
I believe less than a dozen people actually came down with the flu and I don’t believe anyone died.
A physician at that time said the people in 1918 who died from the flu actually died of opportunistic pneumonia, something we now had antibiotics for.
My sister was the head nurse at a community health center in 1976. They gave out approximately 3500 swine flu shots
Not one of the nurses, doctors or other employees at the center got the shot
I received the Swine Flu Vaccine about 1980.
Mandatory for all Soldiers.
Put me in bed for a week.
Army made me receive the Anthrax Vaccine.
Literally killed me and put me in the hospital for a week.
Took the Covid Vaccine because my wife was terrified.
In the ICU for a week.
Wife wanted me to get Covid booster.
I told her to go get her pistol and just shoot me. It would be quicker.
Heck, all ya had to do was ask me!
I’m one of those insignificant Lil ol military guys who caught this in 1975. It was big at Fort Dix/McGuire AFB in New Jersey, but I and a few other airmen at Dover AFB, Delaware were hospitalized for it too!Right during the winter Olympics, at that!@
LOL
I was sitting in Taegu ROK at that time.
Nobody said boo about VAXX and by the time I got back to the Land of the Big PX, it was all over - except for the dead and dying....from the VAXX
In ‘68 while working in a garage in Manhattan I caught the Hong Kong flu. Laid me up for more than a week.
In 76 I was working as a field tech in Southern Manhattan, taking the subway to, from and sometimes during work. Going from office to office, my exposure to many people on a daily basis was great. For these reasons and after my experience in ‘68, I thought getting the swine flu shot was a good idea. BIG mistake. Again I got laid up for more than a week. I never got a flu shot again until about 2010-11. By this time I was in my mid 60s and everything seemed to go OK. Then came this pandemic. I’m now almost 77, crippled, overweight, COPD and not vaxxed. Haven’t even gotten a regular flu shot since this crap started.
I got taken to the ER after a wreck the day after Christmas ‘20. No problems with Medicare or my own health care insurance. But I foresee a time in the not too distant future where my vaccination status will determine whether those benefits will remain accessible.
Very interesting discussion. According to Keiji Fukuda, a 1999 member of WHO, stated, “If a new virus gets identified or reappears, you don’t want to jump the gun and assume a pandemic is happening.” Good advice. It is not ethical to promote fear of a new virus.
I entered basic training in 76 with the swine flu. One day it was do bad I hid on top of the lockers to avoid training. Next day I was ok and completed basic training.
