I think that was the year I had bronchitis and strep throat together. Maybe it was the flu too...

I was in high school in ‘76. I only remember the name, no panic or news.

I was in Junior High, 12 years old, 8th grade and I remember it vividly. I remember it because I *had* swine flu! I remember running a high fever for days while my mom and dad panicked repeatedly, called the doctor who had them place me in a shower with cold water while they rubbed rubbing alcohol on me to bring my temperature down.

My fever was so high and it was so painful I couldn't even open my eyes.

I also remember in the following years the 60 Minutes telecast that showed the horrors of the swine flu vaccine.

Yep, I remember it vividly all these years later at age 59.

Heck, all ya had to do was ask me!

I’m one of those insignificant Lil ol military guys who caught this in 1975. It was big at Fort Dix/McGuire AFB in New Jersey, but I and a few other airmen at Dover AFB, Delaware were hospitalized for it too!Right during the winter Olympics, at that!@

It certainly was a factor in Ford losing to Carter.

LOL

I was sitting in Taegu ROK at that time.

Nobody said boo about VAXX and by the time I got back to the Land of the Big PX, it was all over - except for the dead and dying....from the VAXX

In ‘68 while working in a garage in Manhattan I caught the Hong Kong flu. Laid me up for more than a week.
In 76 I was working as a field tech in Southern Manhattan, taking the subway to, from and sometimes during work. Going from office to office, my exposure to many people on a daily basis was great. For these reasons and after my experience in ‘68, I thought getting the swine flu shot was a good idea. BIG mistake. Again I got laid up for more than a week. I never got a flu shot again until about 2010-11. By this time I was in my mid 60s and everything seemed to go OK. Then came this pandemic. I’m now almost 77, crippled, overweight, COPD and not vaxxed. Haven’t even gotten a regular flu shot since this crap started.
I got taken to the ER after a wreck the day after Christmas ‘20. No problems with Medicare or my own health care insurance. But I foresee a time in the not too distant future where my vaccination status will determine whether those benefits will remain accessible.

Very interesting discussion. According to Keiji Fukuda, a 1999 member of WHO, stated, “If a new virus gets identified or reappears, you don’t want to jump the gun and assume a pandemic is happening.” Good advice. It is not ethical to promote fear of a new virus.

I entered basic training in 76 with the swine flu. One day it was do bad I hid on top of the lockers to avoid training. Next day I was ok and completed basic training.

I remember a college prof (leftist, but I repeat myself) recounting an anecdote about a news story of an old guy whose death had been covered by the snooze media of the time, and attributed to something in his medical history. The anecdote was, the prof had seen and heard from the purported daughter, who claimed he'd had no such history.

Ford was POTUS, Carter wound up POTUS.

Yes, perhaps there *are* some parallels.
