Joshua Graham Rohrer, a homeless veteran in North Carolina, says he was wrongfully arrested and mistreated by Gastonia police officers, who also tased his service dog Sunshine, sparking support from those who witnessed the incident.
~
Rohrer was standing on a median near a Gastonia shopping center with Sunshine on Oct. 13 when a 911 caller contacted police. While Rohrer wasn’t bothering anybody, having Sunshine with him was his way of using sympathy to get money from people, the caller said, according to a copy of the audio call.
~
Rohrer’s grief over losing Sunshine almost killed him, Dowell said to Military Times. According to Dowell, Rohrer took off into traffic after learning Sunshine was gone, and tried throwing himself in front of any car that he could.
“He absolutely lost his mind,” Dowell said.
Losing Sunshine and facing the allegedly rough and careless treatment of the police left Rohrer feeling hopeless enough that he “just wanted to die,” he said.

“It’s not my fault you can’t defend the unreasonable things you’ve said on this thread. I’m not the first one to notice. I have no intention of butting out. If you intended it to be a private conversation, you should have used FReepmail.”
Obvious you are into personal attacks. Please past something unreasonable I have posted and why it is unreasonable. Otherwise butt out with your personal attacks.
You’re right. I shouldn’t bother with it. Others have tried to reason with it, but it can’t be reasoned with. Its purpose is to disrupt.
“Its purpose is to disrupt.”
Sorry for noting your pal, BM, was making up things.
Sorry for noting that you were making up things.
Absolutely heartbreaking.
No need arguing with that one. He is a constant (professional?) agitator.
"You’re making it difficult for anyone to respond to you without profanity."
Do yourself a favor and stop looking for things to be outraged about. It makes you look silly.
He’s got service connected PTSD. Meaning, he is paid for it. The average payment for service connected PTSD is 70% connection. The fact that he was given a dog by the VA, means he is very likely to be 100% service connected.
Where this incident occurred, one can live surprisingly well on $3k a month. Especially if he comes down a little ways to SC.
I’ve said nothing to minimize his sacrifices, nor do I begrudge him his benefits at all. However,I do happen to have a lot of experience in this area. More than you do from reading a book, I assure you. If the man is panhandling, he likely has some issues that need addressing like substance abuse. The guy needs help and probably someone to manage his money, so he can’t spend it on things he shouldn’t.
Just do what I have done for the past 8 years, ignore him. (It it hard to do sometimes... but bite your lip/tongue :P)
No I am using logic. Either the dog was issued to Rohr following the change in the law. Or he has another disability (nothing says he had to give a full medical history)which allowed for him getting a service dog. There is another possibility that I forgot. If the PTSD was associated with another disability such as it causing a seizure. Then the dog could be assigned for that reason.
In any case the dog was a VA assigned service dog.
you would be incorrect
The Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers Act of 2021 (PAWS) bill, S. 951, sets up a grant program for service dog organizations that provide trained dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD or TBI. This bill and its companion bill, H.R. 1022, establish a three-year pilot program that’s administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
You are right about the VA. I typed/read in haste. The organization providing service dogs must be approved by the VA.
I was wrong. I read in haste. I will correct my statement. In order to be recognized as a service dog for an eligible veteran the dog must be from a source accredited by a VA recognized organization.
Never gave that a thought.
Never gave that a thought.
Sad.
You really hate vets don’t you “He paid for it (PTSD)”.
“Things to get outraged about” like horrible treatment of fellow vets, you mean? And outraged about totally out to lunch people that slam them for the results of our service, like you?
You have no idea what we vets go through so please get off your high horse.
You still imagine that he gets $3k an month, as though you are privileged to know his particular situation. What presumption! You put yourself up as having experience with vets which is, by your terribly negative comments, untrue or at best imagined.
Please crawl back into whatever crack you crawled out of and leave us vets alone! You have no standing to claim any knowledgeable comment.
Wow, you sure are looking for someone to lash out at. Good luck with that.
looking for someone to lash out at.
—
You lashed out at us vets accusing one of us needlessly and falsely. You richly deserve a spot in hell.
Nobody is lashing out but you. Keep it coming. I find your over-the-top hyperventilating rather amusing actually. Please, by all means, continue showing everyone how emotionally stable you are.
