Chilling new details about Alec Baldwin’s fatal movie mishap emerged Monday — from the on-set medic who futilely tried to help save cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ life.
“Are we rehearsing?” medic Cherlyn Schaefer asked after hearing an unexpected “loud shot” on the set of the Western film “Rust” on Thursday, according to an injury report she filed and which was reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
“Because ‘fire in the hole’ was not called,” Schaefer said.
Schaefer then heard someone say “medic emergency,” and she dashed to the part of the set where filming was supposed to start up again after lunch, the Journal said.
There, she found Hutchins, 42, with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Schaefer ordered crew members to apply pressure to the cinematographer’s injury and call 911, then checked for the victim’s vital signs and began to give her oxygen through a mask while waiting for EMTs to arrive at the scene, the report said.
Hutchins was taken to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, where she was pronounced dead.
Schaefer wrote, “something was shot from a prop gun” on the section of the medic’s report that asked for a “detailed cause” of the incident.
Alec Baldwin in Rust Alec Baldwin was inadvertently given a real loaded gun. Instagram The tragic shooting came after Baldwin was inadvertently given a real loaded gun by Assistant Director David Halls, according to a search warrant obtained by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The weapon was supposed to have blanks in it.
Halls, rookie movie-set armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and Baldwin were all known to have handled the weapon before the fatal shooting, according to the warrant.
According to the warrants, Baldwin was rehearsing a scene where he was due to pull the gun while sitting in a church pew and point...

Good gawd, have you not been paying attention?
The set workers were playing with guns after hours doing target practice. That’s why live rounds were on the set. They were in a remote location and thought it would be cool to shoot guns.
There’s been no mention of who provided the live rounds but evidently, some got left in the gun that the asst director chose for Baldwin and neither the armorer, asst, director or Baldwin checked the gun(s).
All three are at fault plus whoever left the rounds in the gun.
Baldwin as co-producer so he is at the top for being responsible for how things ran on the set and he was also the last line of defense as the one pulling the trigger.
In the colonial days of the Americas people were required to take their muskets to church, then drill after services were over.
The same in the 1300s England with bow and arrows.
A problem way back then. IJ may have saved many lives.

Whew ... based on what John outlines as gun safety procedures on set, “negligence” is a major understatement.
I thought the same. And he regularly carries so he knows guns.
“Baldwin was rehearsing a scene where he was due to pull the gun while sitting in a church pew and point...”
I have great something uncle who shot a man in church somewhere around the turn of the 20th century. Arizona I believe.
I’m not discounting the union thing entirely. Just wondering if they had opportunity.
So has Alec Baldwin.
They need to be transported to a trauma center for surgery.
A Paramedic or, I guess a nurse could administer IV blood and pain meds, if available, under direction of Medical Command.
The set medic did not have an ambulance, the supplies on an ambulance or a partner.
Of course she’s going to call 911, and request Medevac as well. She’s not a trauma surgeon in a trauma bay.
True - but last time I checked, Ray Liotta wasn’t a gun-hating arrs-wole who knew more than the rest of us peasants.
At least we’ll never hear Alec say another word about gun control.
Great and informative interview! Thanks for sharing.
Baldwin is likely one of many co-producers on that project. No one has reported exactly how they had it structured and his co-producer title may not amount to much. He may not have had any oversight responsibility. The 23 yr old armorer, the asst director with the bad safety record, and whoever was doing the hiring and firing is where this is going to land.
Wow. Where did they find any .45 Long Colt ammo for sale?
There’s been no confirmation of the gun model as far as I’ve seen. Just a bunch of articles using some stock photo of an old western looking revolver.
You’re welcome.
Uh, and something else that's sort of pertinent. Safety violations, specifically firearms safety violations. Funny how the Post didn't mention that too. Well, maybe not so funny. Baldwin's flying monkeys are all over the media right now.
This nasty multimillionaire person was writer, producer or one of AND star of the flick. It's pretty much his movie.
It doesn’t matter if the person who handed the gun to Baldwin was the Pope or Jeffrey Dahmer — Baldwin was the person holding it, pointing it, and pulling the trigger when it fired. He ALONE is responsible for making sure HE did not kill someone by mistake through HIS negligence. More than one person screwed up, but only ONE person pulled the trigger. Anybody who knows the first thing about gun safety knows you treat *EVERY* gun as loaded and make sure for yourself that is isn’t — but you *still* don’t point it at someone. Please don’t deflect from the simple fact: Baldwin killed a person in a circumstance that was completely preventable — BY HIM — regardless of what anyone else did or didn’t do.
