A hiker lost on a mountain in Colorado ignored repeated calls from rescuers — later explaining that they had been unfamiliar with the phone number, authorities said.
The person was reported missing after they didn’t return from an expedition Oct. 18 on Mount Elbert, the highest peak in the state, Lake County Search and Rescue said.
Search crews canvassed the area the following day, but couldn’t find the hiker, officials said.

My cell carrier gives me that warning every time my Dem Congresscritter calls me with an invitation to join his telephone town hall.
I could picture the scene (in fact I could picture a class mate that might have been the local guy except he’s been dead a good ten years), and when I hit Oregon I was about 80% sure of the poster.

Writer is an idiot. There is one hiker described here, yet the writer repeatedly uses the plural possessive adjective.
I once had a telemarketer call me 4 hours post-op. You would not want to have been privy to the conversation!

For the ones I do answer, my usual response is a low “There’s blood everywhere. I can’t talk now” and I hang up.

Not a generalization. Women are incapable of ignoring a phone call. (donning flak jacket).
It’s a lost cause. When people over 50 today are all gone, nobody will remember singular gender-specific pronouns.

Not very long ago, you would have used “he/she” or “he or she.” But the singular gender-specific pronoun has given way to non-gendered plural pronoun now used as a singular non-gender-specific pronoun.
It’s like nails on the blackboard to this old-timer. Just like “me and him went to the movies.” Ugh.

I’m guessing with this idiot their mailbox was full.....
You should do two things if you are lost and have a cellphone.
(1) Change your voicemail to describe your situation with a description of your location. If your phone dies, people will hear the message when they attempt to call you.
(2) Turn off the setting in your cellphone that filters out unknown phone numbers. You might get a call from a search party or someone trying to sell you a car warranty.
I guess the rescuers don’t text...
