Pissed me off since I thought it was a movie. Turns out it’s a series. More to follow.

The underlying moral of Dune is relevant today.

Caladan was a powerful nation run by fair and benevolent men. It was a utopia of peace, growth and opportunity.

It fell because it became soft and tolerant. The Harkonnens were strong, desperate and knew struggle.

The good guys lost because they were complacent tolerant and had enough time to consider everyone. They felt guilty for being wealthy and they felt they had to work better while others lied cheated and stole. And in the end, it was they who fell.

I compare it to America all the time.

We did drive-ins on date nights, back in the 60s, but I haven’t been to a theater since then. I have an 82” Samsung QLED4 TV on the wall in my condo, so that’s good enough for watching what I want, especially F1, IndyCars and IMSA races, and a few movies.

It was the Liet-Kynes character in this movie that made me understand the character better.

I read the book but Liet-Kynes was totally lost in the billions of words and pages. I didn’t get the whole effect.

The movie gave me more to understand but I guess I got it wrong. This movie clearly states that Liet-Kynes is not a friend. Not a guide. Not actually there to hand over the planet. They are there to enact the Emperors will and communicate back.

The character was almost evil. And she did it well. I don’t think another faceless white guy would have made the character stand out. Being black with dreads (Or braids, whatever) and wearing rags makes one think she is from Arrakis which helps her do her job.

In the first I immediately thought he was Freemen. I did until like the 4th time I saw the Lynch movie. I was confused.

Having read the Dune series of books, I was really happy to see this new film version of that series. I really enjoyed it as opposed to the first attempt featuring Sting.

I am looking forward to the coming sequel(s).

If for no other reason, but to escape our current reality for a couple of hours.

Frankly I’m sick of the way right-wing media talks about movies they haven’t seen.

I mean yeah, it’s all China in hollywood anyway so I’m not defending those cretins. But hear me out:

When Captain America was talked about, we were told it was going to actually be a good guy but he’ll abandon the America themes and focus on being global.

He wasn’t.

We’ve told through 2 Bond movies that “This is it. He’s now made to look a fool by gay and female characters to mark the end of toxic masculinity”

He wasn’t.

Everytime a good “man’s movie” comes out there is some article trying to convince me that the left has ruined it. I watch it and find the opposite true.

Minorities are being more powerful in movies but I haven’t yet seen them take away from anything to make them better. I’ve only been seeing movies get stupider because good writers are simply retired and the new ones are lame idiots.

Star wars was just bad. It wasn’t bad because of leftism it was bad because of hollywood/china politics. They picked out this chinese girl to be some sort of character because they were told they had to to make money. Finn is black but never, ever once had ‘black dialogue’ or anything. He was a man. Rey is lifeless but all today’s actors are lifeless. They wrote her to suddenly gain the powers of the most powerful Jedi because they had no other way to introduce a new character.

Don’t get all bent out of shape because people tell you something is woke.

I plan to watch it on HBO Max this weekend. I thought the 1984 version was okay, but no big deal. I never read the books but lots of people in college were reading them in the 70s. From the 1984 film, I didn’t find the story to be all that fascinating.

A little slide here, I have been watching “Foundation” I read the books as a kid and always hoped for a Film version. Apple turned this masterpiece into a Total Woke piece of Crap.

Saw it last night. It didn’t live up to the hype.

The same was true for the first one they tried.

Dune, the book, was such a good read I ran out to get another Frank Herbert book. Dude was a, "one hit wonder". The David Lynch movie was almost worse than, "The Fountainhead" film.

It isn't. A book about political intrigue has never been less interesting.

I like the novel but I really don’t have much interest in seeing this new film version. Not entirely sure why. I’m a bit cynical about anything Hollywood does these days. I don’t like the actor they picked to play Paul. He’s got “woke” written all over him.

Do they have Joy Behar in that black bus with the big windows like in the first movie?

Scared the crap out of people.

Some otherwise great novels are not filmable because of length, the importance of interior monologues and abstract ideas, or an overabundance of characters and storylines. Dune has all those impediments to effective film making, which are integral to its greatness as a novel.

Some of these sagas can be real tomes. Dune, Lord of the Rings, etc. Covering them in one movie draws lots of complaints of being overwhelming. That was a large complaint of the first Dune. As it was on the cusp of the computer generated special effects age, its ‘trick photography’ seems marginal and campy, by today’s standards. Same with the acting. They did the best they could.
