The best way to clear a gate-loading SAA with dummy rounds is to point the gun at the ground away from people and pull the trigger six times. Click click click click click click.

There is a link in one of these threads about a professional set armorer who does exactly that, only he pulls the trigger eight times for extra caution.

That simple procedure likely would have detected a live round and prevented this.

Bingo.

He should not point any weapon, loaded or not, at anyone he did not intend to shoot.

Regardless, nothing will happen to him — unless the shot folks are minorities.

It’s not black, so it can’t be an evil gun!!

Exactly. At the end of the day, the gun performed as a gun is expected to perform. Balwin pointed it at a person, pulled the trigger, and the person died.

Anyone handling any gun should educate himself on the proper way to handle any gun. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Alec Baldwin I bet was fooling around on the set judging from the reports of lack of safety prior.

Oh I knw about Reeves. Incredibly proficient in weapons, but watch the shots he takes. I mean direct shots to the head, chest, everywhere. Just wondering how they safely setup such close quarter shots to stuntmen without injuring them? I mean a close quarter shot even with a blank can kill you. Jon Eric Huxum is a perfect example of that.

Cartridge Conversions usually have the loading lever and ram removed and a more useable / removable center pin installed so the cylinder can be quickly pulled out for either a fast reload with a second cylinder or spent brass removal. Some later conversions also had a loading gate and ejector installed if I recall.

Reeves gun handling on camera in close action is done with a safe nonfiring prop. Then CGId for nuzzle effects etc. No one shoots others with blanks. Ever.

Well, occasionally.

That may be a way, but bullets go sonewhere and often not into the dirt.

The correct method for clearing a SA revolver is to draw the hammer to half cock or safety notch if equipped, then open the gate and manually clear each chamber with the ejector while visually inspecting....

I’d never trust a dummy round.

Man that is a ton of CGI for those films. He kills 150 people in each film.

That picture has the caption “A vintage Colt Dragoon from the 1800s is seen. The fatal gun was a Colt, but the model and caliber are sill unclear.”
So no one seems to know anything about the gun other than it was a Colt. The DM just put up a random picture.

Thank you! It's amazing how many irrelevant posts can show up on a thread, because people don't read the original/full article...

Perhaps INSTEAD of condemning guns and gun owners, Alec Baldwin should have learned BASIC gun safety! The REALITY is that he pointed a loaded gun at a person and PULLED THE TRIGGER! That is NO “misfire”, the firearm WORKED AS DESIGNED. HE failed to CHECK to ENSURE that it was unloaded. I’ll bet he did not even know HOW to CLEAR it.
