New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a plan Friday to phase out the gifted and talented programs for elementary school students that many educators say discriminate against Black and Hispanic children enrolled in the nation’s largest public school system.
It will be replaced by a program called “Brilliant NYC” that will expand the pool of students being offered accelerated learning, and not limit it to just the incoming kindergarteners who scored well on an optional exam that put them on a path to attend the city’s elite middle schools and high schools.

They would only be “racist” if minorities are neither gifted nor talented...but even if that were true, it still wouldn’t be racist.

Good. Do you want your child to receive a “gifted” education? Pay for it yourself.
These fools apparently have no idea just how racist their shut down of the program is. They are saying that minorities are inferior. Lefties are a really clueless bunch. This is why they are authoritarian. No intelligent sane person would buy their dumb ideas.

Gifted adults don’t live in government housing - why should gifted students be forced to study in government schools?
Discriminate does not mean prejudice. If you were grading eggs, putting the large eggs in one bin and medium eggs in another bin is not prejudice. It is discrimination.
Prejudice is not allowing POCs to participate in the gifted program.
Discrimination is allowing all qualified students to participate in the gifted program. POCs who qualify on the same terms as non-POCs are admitted.

Being a talented achiever is so racist. I wonder if that applies to basketball and football too?
If a child is truly “gifted,” he wouldn’t need someone else to teach him. You could hand him a book and he’d learn on his own.
In fact, he’d be better off never attending school with all the bad influences there (yes, including in the “gifted programs”).
