A Romanian billionaire was killed — along with his wife, son and five other people — when the plane he was piloting crashed into a building in Italy on Sunday, local media reported.
Dan Petrescu, 68, one of the richest men in his home country, was operating a single-engine Pilatus PC-12 that was seen in flames before it slammed into an office building undergoing renovations in San Donato Milanese, a town southeast of Milan, authorities said.
The fatal wreck took place minutes after the plane took off from Milan’s Linate airport at about 1 p.m., according to aviation agency ANSV, which has opened an investigation.
The plane’s black box has been recovered, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported, citing deputy prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano.

Them little airplanes will get ya.
Arkancide?
Failed to complete the pre trip inspection checklist.
Sad! In the end when you go, you can’t take it with you.
That looks like a mess.
The main market for the aircraft is corporate transport and regional airliner operators. The PC-12 is the best-selling pressurized single-engine turbine-powered aircraft in the world and has been for several consecutive years - with 1,700 deliveries as of October 2019.
The Swiss-made Pilatus 12 is the Mercedes of single-engine turboprops. The model combines the speed, comfort and safety of a twin-engine executive plane with the cost-effectiveness of the King Air C90. It is ideal for shared flights, weekend use or short-distance corporate travel.
The plane is among the best safety records in the history of the turbine engine. According to information taken from the official FAA website, which covers flight data in the United States and Canada, between April 26, 1990 and December 24, 2019, only 63 PC-12 accidents were recorded, with only one resulting in death and three with injured people.
I'll be following this and await the final report. The Pilatus aircraft have an outstanding safety reco9rd - most are lost to pilot error.
If I was one of the richest in my country, I would fly myself and family in an airplane with two engines, and I wouldn’t be the pilot.
That’s a small plane for a billionaire.
Yep. A soon as I get some spare money.... I am getting one!!!
I’ve sometimes thought that being a “master of the universe” can subject one to risks that are rare among the less wealthy. Private plane crashes, kidnapping and extortion, and in some countries, a high probability of government coercion.
Still, I wouldn’t mind trying it in one of my future lives. I’ll be careful.
He’s a billionaire and he’s in a SINGLE ENGINE aircraft?
Yeah, that Pilatus PC-12 turboprop is only about 2 million. What was he thinking? /s
What did he know about The clintons?
Please explain to me how the Pilatus PC-12, a single engine airplane, provides the same level of safety as a twin-engine airplane.
How and why he didn't have a safety pilot flying with him, with something this high performance with your family aboard...
When the thing is on fire, the number of engines may not make much difference.
The biggest problem with two-engine airplanes compared to singles, is that there is double the chance of losing an engine.

Must’ve happened fast, since there’s no report of a declared emergency or mayday.
