Police arrested two people after finding 21 kilograms of the highly-toxic drug carfentanil – enough to kill 50 million people – inside a Southern California home.
The synthetic opioid, which is 100-times more potent than fentanyl, is typically used to sedate elephants and other large mammals.
Andres Jesus Morales, 30, and 27-year-old Christine Ponce were charged with four felonies for possession for sales of fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin. Both pleaded guilty during an arraignment yesterday and were held without bail. They’re due to appear in court again November 9.
Carfentanil is so powerful that it’s fatal at a nanogram level; veterinarians wear protective gear while handling it to avoid exposure.
The amount seized would be enough to kill 50 million people if it was mixed with other drugs, police said.
Cops in Riverside County, California said they made the discovery while executing a search warrant at a Perris home. They also seized 4kg of cocaine and 1kg of heroin.

I’d like to work up a myth-fact set that gets at how the Covid vaccines cannot possibly be effective or long-lasting due to the nature of coronaviruses versus the nature of other diseases where a vaccine might actually make some sense, but this conceptually is a bit harder for my brain to handle compared to the brains of others here.

United Airlines has moved to postpone its vaccine mandate amid a lawsuit from several employees. On Friday, the airline agreed to rollback its measures until the court presiding over the case is able to hold hearings.
United Airlines originally told employees they’d need to be vaccinated or receive an exemption by Sept. 27 or face losing their jobs. They were the first airline to try and implement the measure on all of their employees.
However, several employees sued the company last week. They alleged the major airline discriminated against employees seeking medical or religious exemptions.

A group of New York parents and two local legislators are suing to overturn the state’s requirement for school children to wear masks.
They allege the mandate was issued illegally and wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny if the state tried to pass it through the correct procedures.
They’re asking the court to toss the mandate as “arbitrary and capricious.”
State Sen. George Borrello (R-Sunset Bay), one of the plaintiffs, said he’s hearing the majority of his constituents in the Niagara Falls area are against masking children. His gripe, however, is mainly with what he sees as the usurpation of power by the governor.

Gosh, I just dunno. It almost seems like he’s left something out, between “We never forget 2020” and “an even more glorious victory in November of 2024”. As in, what’s going to be DONE about 2020?
CTC’s theory about the military made a lot of sense, and the way I read it, it didn’t really conflict with the additional input from LJ. Would love to hear any additional thoughts you yourself may have also.

California will now mail ballots to voters in all elections, extending a practice temporarily adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent the spread of the virus at polling locations.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday signed Assembly Bill 37, authored by Assemblyman Marc Berman, D-Menlo Park, which requires county elections officials to mail a ballot to every active registered voter for all elections, whether they request it or not. Voters can still choose to vote at physical polling locations, if they prefer.
The new law will also permanently extend the time mail ballots have to arrive at elections offices from three days to seven days after an election, a practice adopted in 2020.
