Another benefit of hunters hunting. They find people and things. I found a man’s wallet.

I wonder if he was a local? My family owned a ranch in Lemhi County many decades ago. We moved from there when I was seven but the area attracts hunters from all over, many of whom had no business hunting, let alone wandering the wilderness area by themselves. A hunter from California shot one of our horses, a brood mare with a colt, because a pheasant was sitting on her back. A little girl waiting for the school bus was shot and killed because she was wearing a brown coat and the hunter assumed she was a deer.

The wilderness, mountains, deserts etc are full of “remains” that are yet to be found. New ones added regularly. Newer ones will be in tank tops, shorts and flip flops.☠

Check out this story...
It’s a case of a hunter who chose not to use a safety harness in a stand and fell and impaled himself on his gun after dozing off and falling from his tree stand. He’s a lucky SOB as there just happened to have been searchers in the area looking for lost hikers and one of the searchers heard his groans. Even more bizarre was this part of the story:
“Rescuers found the hunter's prosthetic left foot and shoe stuck overhead in the tree stand. Cantu, whose foot was amputated years ago, yearly hunts on the state land in southern Osceola County, a wildlife worker said.”
Osceola Hunter falls 30 feet, impales leg, thigh on gunI happened to have hunted this WMA this past weekend for the opening of bow season and after seeing the Idaho story this morning, did a Google search to see if anyone had ever gone missing at Three Lakes WMA. Lo and behold I found this bizarre story from ‘94!

What about the guy who got his arm (or leg?) stuck between some rocks, and cut it off to get out?

Thank you! That would make an excellent Christmas Gift and calm me down a little during Bear Season!
Wonder if he’ll manage to keep it on him? He can never seem to find his car fob. Maybe I’ll sew it into his underwear? LOL! :)

You can get a GPS beacon that continuously sends your location to someone you trust. Nomatter if there is phone service. Some even let you send text messages.
I never go boating or into the bush alone without one.

parachuted from the plane and got away with millions
Actually it was $200,000 (equivalent to $1.2 million today) and in 1980 an eight year old boy found $5800 of it buried in a riverbank. D.B. might have passed on by now, 50 years later. This case no doubt sticks in the FBI'S craw big time.

I think the hunter from CA said there was a pheasant thinking it was somehow a rational excuse.
