Conversation among soccer fans over post-match cheesesteaks quickly escalated into three people being beaten unconscious, one fatally, near the iconic Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia, Pat’s owner Frank Olivieri said after reviewing security footage of the deadly brawl.
“It was just mayhem,” he said. “I’m never going to get this vision out of my mind that I watched on the video tape.”
Around 2 a.m., Olivieri said, people in soccer jerseys are seen eating cheesesteaks, talking amongst themselves, seemingly getting along. Many appeared to wear gold jerseys, the color of the Philadelphia Union’s Wednesday night opponent Club América,

Philadelphia sure has changed since 1776.................
Oops, Im not condoning this but...I guess the guy thought he was at home typing on a keyboard. By the time he pulled his stupid head out of his ass it was too late, the guys he was spouting off too, weren’t going to reply to his musings with pixels.
Philthydelphia is no place to be at 2 am.
Yep.
.
BTW are their any lawyers associations fighting for parents who do not want to shoot their children with an experimental government poison?
"People just come here for a good steak sandwich. However, every once in a while, you get a fight that escalates into violence.”
"“We’re not professional bouncers. We sell cheesesteaks.”"
I had heard Philadelphians are militant about their cheesesteaks, but MAN.
I’m a massive cheesesteak fan. There’s the famous rivalry between Pat’s and Gino’s across the street. Frankly I think both have rested on their laurels for a while. I was there and did the taste test. Preferred Gino’s, but there are other just as good or better across the city
Your correct in your cheesesteak evaluation. There are a lot better cheesesteak places in and around the city but Pat’s and Geno’s were known for fast service and catered to the after hours crowd. People watching was a big part of the Pat’s and Geno’s experience which now includes watching people get murdered.
Jim’s Steaks down South Street a ways is really good, and a cool place to boot..
In the late ‘60’s there was a hole-in-the-wall little place on Walnut St at 13th St that sold the best cheesesteaks in the world...
South Philadelphia has quite a history good and bad. What is bad right now is demographics and filth which go hand in hand. The Italians kept it orderly and clean. They mostly migrated to South Jersey. What’s left is turd world.
Because that’s where all the hippest meet
Change in timeless Philadelphia argument: Where is the better murder? Pat’s or Geno’s?
I grew up outside Philly. I can remember riding the subway and walking around after concerts and ballgames. I always felt reasonably safe. Today I avoid cities unless absolutely necessary.
No way.
