New research from Trinity College and University of Edinburgh has examined the association between vitamin D and COVID-19, and found that ambient ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (which is key for vitamin D production in the skin) at an individual's place of residence in the weeks before COVID-19 infection, was strongly protective against severe disease and death.
Previous studies have linked vitamin D deficiency with an increased susceptibility to viral and bacterial respiratory infections. Similarly, several observational studies found a strong correlation between vitamin D deficiency and COVID-19.
To overcome this, researchers were able to calculate "genetically-predicted" vitamin D level, that is not confounded by other demographic, health and lifestyle factors, by using the information from over one hundred genes that determine vitamin D status.
The Mendelian Randomisation is a particular analytical approach that enabled researchers to investigate whether vitamin D and COVID-19 might be causally linked using genetic data. Few earlier studies attempted this but failed to show a causal link. This could be because UVB radiation sunshine which is the most important source of vitamin D for majority of people was ignored.
Researchers, for the first time, looked at both genetically-predicted and UVB-predicted vitamin D level. Almost half a million individuals in the UK took part in the study, and ambient UVB radiation before COVID-19 infection was individually assessed for each participant. When comparing the two variables, researchers found that correlation with measured vitamin D concentration in the circulation was three-fold stronger for UVB-predicted vitamin D level, compared to genetically-predicted.
What were the findings?
Researchers found that ambient UVB radiation at an individual's place of residence preceding COVID-19 infection was strongly and inversely associated with hospitalization and death. This suggests that vitamin D may protect against severe COVID-19 disease and death.

Since Vitamin D has a long half-life in the blood, you could supplement it some days and not others, or take fairly more on occasion, while your body averages the amount out, over time. For instance, I used to take 10,000 IU a day, but now take 5,000 IU a day for four days and often skip the fifth day of it.
Going over 4,000 IU can be fine for many people, as the Upper Tolerable Limit is computed for the point at which anyone with any issue with a substance might first start seeing a toxic reaction.
Getting your blood tested for Vitamin D would be your best source of actual knowledge as to how well your body is converting it for use.
If having any questions, plenty of medical websites can provide more information. In the meantime, please consider supplementing Vitamin D for a great many reasons, if not getting outside without protection from the sun for 15-30 minutes a day.
Particularly ironic is the fact that they tried to lock people up and keep them from getting any sun - and hence Vitamin D.
My husband and I take it daily!
yes
More information the Biden regime will hide from the Outer Circle.
Been in our regular daily dosages. We have been around a LOT of unknown groups of folks so our exposure level is fairly high. No vaxxes as of now and no intention of getting them simply because we don’t want them. Like the yearly flu shots that we don’t get.
We do, too...4,000 IU’s per day.
I don’t take a vitamin D supplement but I am a big milk drinker. Is there enough vitamin D in milk to make a difference? I certainly don’t think I have a deficiency in this regard.
Take it every day, along with C, zinc, and a host of other old-guy pills that aren’t blue.
bkmk
Do you think this could have something to do as to why Africa has been less affected than other parts of the world? Also hydroxychloroquine is commonly used there to prevent malaria (which is a big killer there).
Interesting. My wife and I take 10,000 units a day. I also walk 3 times a day so there is also that source.

Same here.

Same here. We also have Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine on hand if we start to get Covid symptoms.
Ditto here, although it’s D3+K ... check it out ... Vitamin K in conjunction with D really helps the circulatory system. Cheers!

I take 7000 IUs a day..................
