Death.

I think that is the only thing which will actually turn it off.

Just death.

I don’t have a cure backwards Frank, but I did notice something odd a few times: At various times my ringing (from many gunshots and rock concerts) will completely stop for a few seconds while my hearing remains normal.

When it happens and then the ringing returns, it only serves to remind me of the silence I’m missing.

Get your magnesium level checked or start supplementing. Got Tinnitus in November ‘01 at a 9/11 benefit concert. The ringing was so loud I I could barely hear myself speak after the concert. Let up after a couple days but still persisted. Still had annoying ringing in my ears especially at night and it felt like my hearing was clogged. Researched it more thoroughly because it wasn’t going away after months. Found that lack of magnesium could be a factor for noise induced tinnitus. Went to Whole Foods and got a really healthy meal and a magnesium supplement which I took. Exiting the store my ears popped and I could hear clearly for the first time in months. Continued with the magnesium regimen and it cured itself in a short period of time. 20 years later I am still fine. If I don’t eat properly or supplement I can be sensitive to certain sounds. Good nutrition and Magnesium with vitamin D and Calcium so it can be absorbed fixes the issue and was the cure for me.

That was really unbelievable when it happened. You would have thought someone with resources at the least would have tried the Mayo Clinic if nothing else.

Diving related tinnitus. This may sound silly, but stick your fingers in your ear and pull out quickly to cause a slight suction. Do it a few times. It helps.

I’ve had it for years. Car accident in 2017 left me with a horrendous concussion and my tinnitus is orders of magnitude worse since. Many of the concussion issues have improved - not the tinnitus, though.

I ran across an article about a grad student who was working on some sort of treatment/device to help people with car sickness when riding in self-driving cars. Apparently, car sickness is a big issue for self-driving cars. A significant number of people testing the treatment/device found their tinnitus improved. I signed up for the email list for when they decide to try some clinical trials for tinnitus. Haven’t heard anything in at least a year. I guess the idea didn’t pan out. Dammit.

Yes - swapping one noise for another is not ideal.

Lord, I wish it could just be quiet for 10 minutes.....

What brand is high quality ginko?

I’ve thought for awhile that salt and sugar make it worse but I haven’t paid that close attention. I’ll need to pay attention to see if there is a correlation for me. Thanks.

I haven’t tried being in the back of my head against the wall, but suspect don’t be feeling pain from that, which might cover up the tinnitus.

that vertigo is usually a symptom of meneire’s disease. its not really a disease but rather some kind of inner ear problem. If you have an inner ear test —they’ll likely find extra fluid in your inner ear. that was the case with me. my case is mild. I had the vertigo incidents twice about four years ago. but after that the vertigo went away. However, I have a hard case of tinnitus and my balance is no longer great like it once was.

Consider the possibility that one of the medications you take regularly is causing the tinnitus. I stopped taking ibuprofen as a sleep aid and my tinnitus of many years went away within a couple of weeks. I can bring it back immediately simply by resuming the ibuprofen.

“Mine started years ago ... a combination of different work environments and a devil may care attitude about protecting my hearing.”

So noise-induced.

Google Tinnitus magnesium or Tinnitus magnesium cure.

Is magnesium good for tinnitus?
Magnesium has been shown to relieve the severity of tinnitus symptoms. A healthy supply of magnesium also keeps the blood vessels relaxed, allowing adequate blood to flow throughout the body, including through the vessels in the inner ear.May 24, 2021

Can lack of magnesium cause tinnitus?
Permanent and temporary changes in auditory function have been linked to nutritional deficiencies of magnesium. Mg deficiency has resulted in increased susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss, ototoxicity, and hyperexcitability of the auditory system.

I used Ginkoba 20 years ago, and haven't needed it since. There are probably other good brands out there. Just don't go cheap.

As far as I know the only cure is death.

The only treatment, whiskey.

My tinnitus manifests itself as an echo or shadow of sound. Only really bothers me when listening to music and seems to affect my hearing. I take OTC Flavinoid and it helps after a couple of days.
